That helped me solve a mystery, the meaning of the name of a very interesting
Ice Cream store:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/04/magazine/04icecream-t.html

With Humphry Slocombe, Godby continued pressing food buttons, beginning with
the name, which is aggressively obtuse. (Mr. Humphries and Mrs. Slocombe were
characters on the bawdy old British sitcom “Are You Being Served?” Godby
insists that if Alice Waters could name her Berkeley restaurant Chez Panisse,
after a highbrow French film, he could name his ice cream store after a lowbrow
British farce.) Godby’s ice cream can be alienating, too. When I first took my
kids, they ordered Salted Licorice, took three licks and then threw their cones
on the sidewalk. This is a familiar San Francisco parents’ tale.

Not as happy with the tonality, the Vivitar S1, renders color more neutrally
than most Pentax lenses which seem to be a bit warmer.

I'd have to be in agreement with BobS, Bruce and Jack. This one seems
cleaner and the whites are whiter. The first looked a bit too yellow n
my calibrated monitor. I don't mine the shadows - they still have some
detail in them and look fairly natural to me.

Re: PESO -- Cliché. II

2011-07-14 Thread Bruce Walker
I agree with Bob. But the shadows suggest this was taken in fairly
strong light that I find still too harsh for my taste. I'd have
interposed a diffuser to soften the light more.

I'm mindful of your purposeful cliche-ification of the subject, but
flowers in very soft light is also a serious cliche so you'd still
accomplish your goal! :-)
