I think we've discussed this gadget here before. I like the idea
somewhat, but it costs more than I'm willing to pay. I once thought
about building my own variant based on a broken digicam. I'm still
thinking about it, but I've never got around to actually trying to do it...

Hmm, one other downside (for me anyway) is the need to carry yet another AC
adaptor/charger when travelling, and remember to keep yet another device's
battery charged :-/

I wonder if one could focus manually with the screen? If not, I
certainly wouldn't be interested. If so, I might want one.

My wife's Optio S4 has a manual focus option. Using the lcd screen, the
option is pretty useless for anything other than distant landscapes.

I suspect you'd need a magnifier and even then it would leave some to
be desired. You'd have to use AF for anything but a longish lens.

The way I work with the Sony is that I use its flex-spot focusing
feature with manual focus and instant AF: center the spot on
precisely what I want it to focus on, press the button, and it's in
focus. Then I can tweak the focus with the lens control ... the
viewfinder zooms to 2x or 4x magnification so you can see the focus
transition more easily.

I don't know precisely what the Zigview allows, if anything, on
digital magnification. If it does that, then you can focus with it,
with a bit of practice.

I had a Nikon 5700 that had an articulated LCD screen on the back. It was
extremely useful for shoving into areas that you couldn't stick your head
into, but I certainly wouldn't pay $260 extra for it.

It's definitely a bit pricier than I'd prefer ... but on the other
hand, it enables a Pentax DSLR to be used in much the way I use the
Sony R1's articulated LCD finder on a tripod or for low angle
shooting. Can't tell you how convenient that's been compared to an

FYI: B&H and several other places have this item in stock at
the same ($280) or slightly different price.
E.g. B&H:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/440312-REG/Zigview_SCV100R_Zigview_R_Digital_Angle_Finder.html

http://tinyurl.com/egcyq

It seems to be an interesting gadget, though rather expensive for what
it does. It might be useful for some work (e.g. macro, weird angles, etc.),
but for myself, I can hardly justify the price.
