SD card for DS
I just received my DS and 16-45 DA lens. Being new to DSLR I am wondering if there is a difference in SD cards and which one all of you DS users recommend. DG
Re: SD card for DS
The DS body can take advantage of write speed improvements up to the 60x to 80x rated cards. Beyond that, any speed improvement on the part of the card is useful when downloading to your computer (via an appropriate, fast USB 2.0 card reader...) but doesn't help the camera's write speed at all. I generally stick with Sandisk 1G Ultra II cards and have been pleased with their price, speed and reliability. I do think memory cards are one area where the name brands (e.g., SanDisk and Lexar) are worth getting (for reliability). Then, getting the Ultra (etc.) ones can offer ~some~ speed improvement. I've been happy with some SanDisk and some SanDisk Ultra II cards (the non-Ultra ones may not be as fast, but they're certainly usable). Fred

I generally stick with Sandisk 1G Ultra II cards and have been pleased with their price, speed and reliability. I also use the same card and had no problem since June 2005. Ultra II seems to be using all (or almost all) speed capacity of the DS. I also found that the SanDisk SD 1GB gaming (yellow) card http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1193)-SDSDG-1024-SanDisk_Gaming_SD_1GB.aspx is as fast on DS as the Ultra II (or even very slightly faster, probably within statistical deviation). I don't know how reliable that one is, - I've been using it only since late December. I found that the regular SanDisk SD 1GB is slower than the capability of the DS. Also, ATP MMCplus 1GB card is extremely slow on DS. HTH, Igor

The Transcend 80x cards are a good value and are well regarded.
