My school experience was much the same as yours, I suspect.  I learned
that there were 5 Macquarie Towns but I had no idea where they were or
how relevant they were.  It was only after I moved out to Castlereagh
that I got a bit interested in finding out more.

Thanks, Pete.  I thought I knew the area pretty well too, but it's
surprising what exists close to home when you go looking.  The biggest
challenge was forcing myself to get out of bed early on Wed 30 June
which turned out to be the coldest morning in over 60 years

Don't know why you didn't see the original post.  I sent it just after
10PM Thursday (Sydney time) and it came into my mailbox a minute or so
later.  The original post is also in the archives.  A mystery.

The Regatta picture took a bit of work.  I wanted to shoot late in the
day to get the late sun on the face of the bridge.  Unfortunately, when
I got to the site I realised that the sun was setting too far north (if
I'd looked at The Photographer's Ephemeris, I would have known this
beforehand).  So, Plan B was to combine two images, one exposed for the
sky and the other exposed for the bridge.  Thankfully I had my tripod
with me

Well, I had another go at SoFoBoMo* this year.  I chose a topic  
close to

home but it was still a challenge to get 35+ photos that I was happy
with to include in the 'book'.

A most worthy collection of well imaged and well composed photos.
Should be a copy on every inhabitant of NSW's coffee table or library.
The uniformity of color is due to the color of the soil? Or is deep
yellow just a favorite down there.
