I can only agree.
Since I got the grip strap I've taken it off from camera only ONCE and put it back
QUICKLY :) The camera handles MUCH worse without it. I had to buy new case for my
camera, but even this way it was absolutely worth of every cent I payed!

I bought a grip strap for my Z-1p about two years ago. I don't regret it
one bit. It can get in the way when the camera is on a monopod (tripod
is OK as I use the cable release). For handheld shooting its a dream.

I didn't bother fitting the neck strap into the grip strap. I thought
it'd get in the way.

You are right - there was a person (in US, I believe) that was working on
producing a grip (batteries inside) for a Z-1p. It looked very promising,
but AFAIK he never got to do it. I exchanged e-mails with him sometime
after, he said that he was thinking less and less about doing it. Nind you
idea was great. And the prototype looked real good.

I'll look for my correspondence with him, if I find anything, I'll let you
know.

To the best of my knowlege, there is no AA battery grip for the
z-1p. There is only a grip strap. It looks like a battery grip, but it
isn't. I wish there was one for every model of Pentax, as I find it has made
shooting much easier and convenient. The only downside I've found is on the
extremely rare (at least for me)occasions when you want to hang the camera
from my neck I can't because you have to take off the neck strap in order to
use the grip strap. Or at least I haven't found a way to use both. Maybe
someone else knows a way.

Someone was developing a grip that would take AA batteries. I guess it
never came to fruition.

Did Pentax make a AA battery grip for Z1P? You are talking about the
grip-strap attachment??

Re: FILM: grip for PZ-1P

2004-01-10 Thread Stan Halpin
The PZ-1p has what is called a "grip strap." Truly a
wonderful addition to the camera.

What you get is a small extension to the bottom of the
camera. No battery holder, no electronics, just the plastic
platform that attaches to the bottom. This gives you two things.

First, the addition extends the grip on the camera so that
you have more to hold onto.

Second, it has an attachment point, on the lower right
corner, for the bottom end of the grip Strap itself. This is
a leather and nylon short strap which attaches to the upper
right of the camera, lower right of the camera+attachment.
You adjust to fit, slide your hand through like sliding your
hand into open fingered gloves, and you are ready for a day
of shooting. A wonderful secure aid to keeping the camera in
hand. As it were. Having once used one, I would never again
carry a PZ-1p without the grip strap.
