I’ve shot film on rare occasions. I still have several Spotmatics and Spotmatic

The list was originally about Pentax gear and photography. With new Pentax
products few and far between and many members shooting other brands, there’s
little to talk about. And there’s Facebook where photos usually garner more

Re: PDML - PDFG ?

Usenet is a relatively ancient system for posting information, messages and the
like. It was originally phone based relying on dial up modems. It’s now
internet based. It’s very basic and straightforward. Although you need an
access app, you don’t have to subscribe to a service like Facebook. It’s rather
inelegant but old timers embrace it as a computer geek badge of honor.

I don’t mean to disparage Usenet. Just pointing out that it’s old and now

The 24-70/2.8 is my most used “normal” lens. It’s a reliable workhorse and

I’m also alive but too busy to engage in conversations about the weather or why
members rarely post. It ‘s a hassle to post a peso here. First , it has to be
posted somewhere else, and then a link has to be posted here. I bit the bullet
and posted one last week. Zero response. Perhaps because I actually used a
Pentax camera and lens. Or maybe the photo sucked but I thought there was a
story there. On Facebook the same pic prompted a discussion.

I’ve always contributed when Doug indicated that the kitty had run dry. Perhaps
it’s time to call it quits and let the list die.

Re: ACR Enhanced Noise Reduction

2023-04-22 Thread Comcast
I don’t know what “ransomware” is, but photoshop online has been a great deal.
It’s installed on my box and faster than the last CC version. It costs ten
bucks a month and includes bridge, ACR, photoshop, Lightroom and more. It
upgrades automatically so I get all the latest features.

I don’t use Lightroom, but I know the Adobe photo package comes with a cloud

Shooting in smoke

2023-06-09 Thread Comcast
The weather looked decent today although I think our air quality number was
still around 150, so I shot a car that I had to cover for an editorial
assignment. I was not happy with the long lens shots. There was definitely
visible haze between lens and subject. Fortunately, Photoshop’s new haze filter
sufficiently eliminated it to make the pics useable. I’m pleased and impressed.

Hope it works ou.

I bought an iMac 27 Retina 4K in 2015. I think I paid about 3K. Still working
well, still fast enough for Photoshop and anything else I’d want to do. With a
second Dell monitor it makes a nice work station

OT: System Renewal

2023-10-30 Thread Comcast
My 8 year old iMac 27 Retina K5 gave up the ghost. It had been getting flakey
for awhile. When writing it would sometimes freeze and restart. I sometimes had
to grabs snapshot of the screen if I didn’t have a recent save, and then type
the text back in after a restart. Finally, it refused to start. The big loss
was its 5k monitor which can’t be used separately.

I had wanted to upgrade to a silicon Mac that could run the latest photoshop AI
tools, so it’s timely, I bought a Mac Mini M2 Pro with much more processing
power than my old iMac. For a monitor I bought a 32-inch LG 4K IPS screen, I’ll
keep my old 27-inch IPS Dell as a second screen.all considered a fairly
economical solution.

DA* 60-250/4 on ebsy

I offered this lens here a while back and have now put it on ebsy. This was my
workhorse when I shot regularly with the APS-C cameras. The SDM motor was
replaced a whlle back with the latest version, and it was flawless thereafter.

I’m also selling my mint A50/1.0 in theoriginal packaging. Yes, the f1
low-light super-bokeh champ. Used only a handful of times by several very
cautious Pentaxians. I’ll let it go for $400 plus shipping.

For a bicycle trip all one really needs is a top of the line phone. In good
light and with the lens clean (very important with a phone) my iphone 12 pro

Re: A half-frame Pentax film camera

As a medium, film suffers in comparison to digital in that it is less capable
of low light reproduction and when pushed, image quality drops precipitously.
The solution has always been larger formats. My best film work was generally on
6x7 or 6x6 film. Half a f a 35 mm frame has no appeal whatsoever. Am I missing
something here?
