[Bug 1716422] New: perl-Test-Unit-0.25-32.fc31 FTBFS with perl 5.30: test_numericness test fails on 0xF00

2019-06-03 Thread bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1716422

Bug ID: 1716422
   Summary: perl-Test-Unit-0.25-32.fc31 FTBFS with perl 5.30:
test_numericness test fails on 0xF00
   Product: Fedora
   Version: 30
Status: NEW
 Component: perl-Test-Unit
  Assignee: xav...@bachelot.org
  Reporter: ppi...@redhat.com
QA Contact: extras...@fedoraproject.org
CC: perl-devel@lists.fedoraproject.org,
xav...@bachelot.org
  Target Milestone: ---
Classification: Fedora

perl-Test-Unit-0.25-32.fc31 fails build with perl 5.30 because a test started
to fail:

$ perl -Ilib t/assert.t
STARTING TEST RUN
1..40
[...]
ok PASS test_assert_raises

not ok ERROR test_numericness
t/tlib/AssertTest.pm:48 - test_numericness(Class::Inner::__A26)
For string '0xF00', expect f but got t
ok PASS test_fail_assert_null

That's caused by a change in perl. Perl 5.28 handles it as string:

$ perl -e 'print qq{YES\n} if q{0xF00} == 0'
YES

While perl 5.30 handles it as a number:

$ perl -e 'print qq{YES\n} if q{0xF00} == 0'

The failing test has a relevant notice at t/tlib/AssertTest.pm:37:

'0xF00' => 'f', # controversial?  but if you +=10 then it's == 10

[Bug 1716324] New: perl-Text-Xslate-3.5.6-5.fc30 is not linked to libperl.so

2019-06-03 Thread bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1716324

Bug ID: 1716324
   Summary: perl-Text-Xslate-3.5.6-5.fc30 is not linked to
libperl.so
   Product: Fedora
   Version: 30
Status: NEW
 Component: perl-Text-Xslate
  Assignee: jples...@redhat.com
  Reporter: ppi...@redhat.com
QA Contact: extras...@fedoraproject.org
CC: i...@cicku.me, jples...@redhat.com,
perl-devel@lists.fedoraproject.org
  Target Milestone: ---
Classification: Fedora

perl-Text-Xslate-3.5.6-5.fc30 lost a dependency on libperl.so since
-Wl,--as-needed was added to distribution-wide linker flags:

$ scanelf -n blib/arch/auto/Text/Xslate/Xslate.so
 TYPE   NEEDED FILE
ET_DYN libc.so.6 blib/arch/auto/Text/Xslate/Xslate.so

$ ldd -r  blib/arch/auto/Text/Xslate/Xslate.so
linux-vdso.so.1 (0x7fff0d5cb000)
libc.so.6 => /lib64/libc.so.6 (0x7f948b9a1000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x7f948bb8f000)
undefined symbol: Perl_sv_cmp   (blib/arch/auto/Text/Xslate/Xslate.so)
undefined symbol: PL_ppaddr (blib/arch/auto/Text/Xslate/Xslate.so)
[...]

Xslate.so is built like this:

gcc -lpthread -shared -Wl,-z,relro -Wl,--as-needed -Wl,-z,now
-specs=/usr/lib/rpm/redhat/redhat-hardened-ld -L/usr/local/lib
-fstack-protector-strong -lperl -o blib/arch/auto/Text/Xslate/Xslate.so
lib/Text/Xslate.o src/xslate_methods.o

The cause is that -Wl,--as-needed takes effect when library is supplied and
considering only preceding object files and ignoring and following object
files. A correct linker command must list all object files before -l flags.
Like this:

gcc lib/Text/Xslate.o src/xslate_methods.o -lpthread -shared -Wl,-z,relro
-Wl,--as-needed -Wl,-z,now -specs=/usr/lib/rpm/redhat/redhat-hardened-ld
-L/usr/local/lib -fstack-protector-strong -lperl -o
blib/arch/auto/Text/Xslate/Xslate.so

Either there is bug in perl-Text-Xslate build script or in
Module::Build::XSUtil that it uses.

We have successfully built all packages except 14 of them. I requested to
merge f31-perl tag back into f31 tag
https://pagure.io/releng/issue/8384#comment-573592 recently. Once rel-engs
do that, Perl 5.30.0 will become available in Fedora 31. If you built your
Perl package in the mean time, you would have to rebuild your package after
the merge again.

Jitka
