Oh yes, it is. You needn't be concerned about someone so stupid they
think PLESES is a word.
What I'd like to do is to get nice people like yourself to write back
to your senders, who need to know they're falling for a hoax, rather
than write to me. One easy way to do that is to keep the text below
as a file you can insert into your replies to them. Read it, pass it
on, or whatever. Just don't send people to me here, I'm already

That's a well-known HOAX message. In future, just delete such
nonsense messages, and don't waste your time with them. Do you
subscribe to the "VirusHelp Mailing List?" If not, perhaps you

INTERNET VIRUS HOAXES: There's a long list of hoax messages being
circulated by email, warning about non-existent "viruses,"
including: Good Times, Pen Pals, Join the Crew, WIN A HOLIDAY, Bud
Frogs, and others. New ones are constantly being dreamed up,
pleading that you forward them to every one you know.
These hoax messages typically warn of disaster if you even read a
suspect email message. The truth is, there's no way that simply
reading an ASCII (text-only) message could spread a virus to your
computer, because text messages cannot be infected.
However, files attached to a harmless e-mail message could be
hazardous. Use common sense: watch where you get your downloads,
be wary of anything that seems too good to be true, and keep a backup
of your essential data files.
To reduce the spread of such hoaxes, and to avoid annoying other
people, do not spread such warnings unless you have verified their
