I would appreciate help with a more definite ID on this insect - I have seen it
incidentally in traps before, but have been seeing it in higher concentration.
I have identified it from reference books as a springtail and nuisance - am I
on track? The second image contains a CM ruler with MM marks for scale.

Thanks,
Kate

Hi Kate,

If you want a little more on springtails there is some information in a white
sheet on the MuseumPests.net website. The fact sheets are here:
http://www.museumpests.net/identification.asp

This may mean you have some sort of moisture problem and there is microscopic
mold in the area you are finding them. The springtails may not be damaging the
objects you are concerned about but they may indicate you want to check on
things.

Cheers,
Genevieve

If it was 2 mm or less long then it's probably Corticaria sp. (one of the
fungus beetles), maybe Corticaria pubscens or serrata (top view seems to show
'teeth' on sides of pronotum).

Hello all,

I found this beetle in one of the insect traps in the archive where I work.
I can not identify it by the museum pests' list I have. Can anyone identify it
by the photos I send? I apologize for the quality of the images, but it was the
best I could get.

Thanks for your help,

Yes, it was less than 2 mm. I looked at some pictures of corticaria serrata
and it looks very similar to the insect in my pictures. It eats mold, which
makes sense in this case...

Thank you very much,

Thank you David,

I am relieved that it is not a pest.
We have also found 5 Stegobium Paniceum in a total of 66 traps. Do you think
we have an infestation or some casual insects?
