Re: [GENERAL] Windows x64 : How do I get OSSP-UUID.sql contrib for postgresql x64

2011-06-30 Thread Hiroshi Saito

Hi Grace-san.

It is the same as windows.
http://winpg.jp/~saito/pg_work/OSSP_win32/

1. Deployment of tar.gz
2. apply the patch
3. configure and build by Linux or MinGW
4. config.h and win32.mak are set at the head of a source tree.
5. nmake -f win32.mak
It can be used by 32 bits and 64 bits.

Hi.

There is very little information which explores a problem.
What thing is an actual error message?

The following is my imagination
As for specific field, it may be the LOWER problem of a character.

example)

postgres=# SELECT Field FROM xx;
ERROR: column field does not exist
LINE 1: SELECT Field FROM xx;

postgres=# SELECT Field FROM xx;

If my misunderstand, the error message which you show will be able to be solved.

 I have a notebook that I am using as a server for testing purposes and
it has the official ODBC driver installed. I can access this and use it
connect to PostreSql.

On a second machine on the same network - I also have the same ODBC
driver installed.

The behaviour of this one is quite different.

I have a test program that works on the server but when I run it on this
workstation, it can create a file with a couple of fields which I can
verify by looking inside PostgreSQL. But when I go to open up that file
and refer to one of its fields, I get an error message saying the field
doesn't exist.

I am running XP Professional on both machines.

I have no idea what is happening - I have opened up the firewall on both
machines to allow port 5432 to be used by all applications with TCP
(also tried TCP and UDP).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers

Phil Jackson

Hello,

I just installed pg-8.4 on Windows XP but ran into
some unexpected problems.

I am working on some tools to aid English-speaking learners of Japanese. This of course requires
me
to regularly display and enter Japanese text on my machine, so I have the Regional setting,
Language

for non-unicode programs set to Japanese although
the locale language is English. This allows me to
to work with both english and japanese text in the
windows console (cmd.exe) just fine. Psql also worked fine until 8.4.

With 8.4 though, psql presents messages in Japanese.
Since I am still a beginner at Japanese myself, this
is a problem.

FWIW, I tried doing SET LANGUAGE en_US and
with every other locale-related variable LC_ALL,
LANG, LC_MESSAGES, etc, I could think of,
before running psql but with no effect.

How can I tell psql (and any other command line tools) to use english messages?

Hi All,

I am trying to build the uuid-ossp contrib module for PostgreSQL 8.3.4.
I am building on Solaris x86 with Sun Studio 12.

I built the ossp-uuid version 1.6.2 libraries and installed them,
however, whenever I attempt to build the contrib module I always end up
with the following error:

--
+ cd contrib
+ cd uuid-ossp
+ make all
sed 's,MODULE_PATHNAME,$libdir/uuid-ossp,g' uuid-ossp.sql.in uuid-ossp.sql
/usr/bin/cc -Xa -I/usr/sfw/include -KPIC -I. -I../../src/include
-I/usr/sfw/include   -c -o uuid-ossp.o uuid-ossp.c
uuid-ossp.c, line 29: #error: OSSP uuid.h not found
cc: acomp failed for uuid-ossp.c
make: *** [uuid-ossp.o] Error 2
--

I have the ossp uuid libraries and headers in the standar locations
(/usr/include, /usr/lib) but the checks within the contrib module dont
appear to find the ossp uuid headers I have installed.

Am I mising something here, or could the #ifdefs have something to do
with it not picking up the newer ossp uuid defnitions?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Bruce

 with not pgsql but uuid-ossp.

Certainly, I think that uuid is effective and the best for the deflecting

Hiroshi,

Thank you very much. I will look forward to it.

However, I really wanted to know what PGSQL people are doing now and have
done in the past to address this kind of issue.

Surely the need to have unique rows across databases has come up before?

Thanks,

Re: [GENERAL] character conversion problem about UTF-8--SHIFT_JIS_2004

2008-02-08 Thread Hiroshi Saito

Hi.

Oh ok,
About the data in a database.
From the pre- report, you are operating by UTF-8. Therfore,
you should take it out by UTF-8 first. It is reload to new 8.3 of UTF-8.
Then, conversion does not occur there.

To the next.
when SJIS is required by the client , some character codes may not have
a conversion table. Then, It will catch with another problem.
It is necessary to analyze it in detail. However, A database can be operated
normally.

I think i can export olddb(7.4) by encoding SJIS,
but can not import it into new db(8.3) for some unregular sjis character.

And
I create the database by encoding UTF-8 .
---
createdb -E UNICODE db
---
I think it is the same to set PGCLIENTENCODING=UTF-8
.
use set client_encoding=''SJIS be the same to export PGCLIENTENCODING=SJIS.

But can not export the data to csv file corecttly without errror,
just because the character which is not SJIS encoding.

The main problem is that , I want to ignore the none SJIS character,
but I do not know how todo it ... :(
Such as iconv function in php
-
If you append the string //TRANSLIT to out_charset transliteration is
activated. This means that when a character can't be represented in
the target charset, it can be approximated through one or several
similarly looking characters. If you append the string //IGNORE,
characters that cannot be represented in the target charset are
silently discarded. Otherwise, str is cut from the first illegal
character.
-

Of course it is not the best way ,
but I just want to resolve this problem immediately

Thanks

Oops again..

or
--

 Thanks for your replay.

 The 0xe9ab99 is not SJIS nor SHIFT_JIS_2004.

 Ahh Ok, you already understood. :-)

 But I shoud export data with not regular SJIS character
 from old database(7.4.3) to new database(8.3),
 and use the old programe which export data as SJIS encoding .csv file.
 Can I modify conf file to ignore the error?
 or check inigore character from the database and convert it to regular
 SJIS encoding character with some tools ?

 Although it is unknown in whether the inside of .csv file which you acquired
 is SJIS...However, as one method,
 If you were operating by SERVER_ENCODING of UTF-8, it will be able to
 bring without conversion. Then, an environment variable will be helpful.

 And
  to export data as .csv file,
  I use set client_encoding='SJIS' at client.

  No, you should use UTF-8 of default.
 means export a UTF-8 encoding csv file?

 Thanks

does this mean, if my server LOCALE is for example UTF-8.en_US, and I want
to create a EUC_JP database it gets rejected? do I missunderstand that?

Normaly my servers have default locale set to UTF-8.en_US but also have the
locales for UTF-8.ja_JP and EUC_JP there, 99.9% of my databases are utf-8,
but I have some clients that created EUC_JP databases, will the upgrade
affect this?

When using server encoding for EUC_JP and UTF-8 simultaneously, it is not allowed

Umm, This is a mere information. (Since you dislike, this may be a noise.?)

As for upper/lower.
It does not change, even if uses which locale in us Japanese.
(there is nothing with the alphabet)
Then, In spite of using a small letter and a capital letter properly clearly.

As for sorting.
It has a difference, if sorting of a dictionary is desired. However, each is

   (PervasiveSQL) for it's database engine. I'd like to transition all
   of the data to PostgreSQL. I've been having trouble finding a
   suitable program to automatically get all of the data transferred
   over.

   I have the proper DDF files and an ODBC link in place to the data.
   Maestro DataDump (from the Postgresql Data Wizard program) only locks
   my machine up and it seemed to be the only think I could find that
   would take an ODBC link to the btrieve data and use it to extract the
   table defs and data to postgresql. Is there some other utility I
   could use or am I stuck writing a custom program to do it? I could
   maybe extract the btrieve data to CSV files but I don't have any easy
   way of doing that quickly for so many tables (and there are a lot!)

  dump to csv would be ideal (you could then use the built in csv import
  through pg via COPY).

  barring that you need to roll some scripts or use a tool. There are
  many ways to do this of varying quality, mostly pretty dubious. In
  the microsoft world you have DTS which has an ok migrator.

 Perhaps odbclink could be of help here?

Yes, I'm the stage which has searched the figure which should desire it.
I see the figure of the application business used realized with two or more
databases. Then, I have explored the solution method which does not spoil
those property. Probably, ORACLE, DB2, SQLServer, and PostgreSQL
live together. On that occasion, They wish data to flow smoothly between
those databases. However, Now odbclink has not equipped cursor yet

*shrug* There's code in the scm repository if you look, and if that doesn't
seem workable try emailing Hiroshi directly. I'm pretty sure you can get
this wokring; Hiroshi gave a lightening talk on it at PGCon.

I progress little by little. It seems to be a tortoise completely.:-)

Thanks.!

Re: [GENERAL] Restore 8.1.4 backup in 8.2.5

2007-09-19 Thread Hiroshi Saito

Hi.

pgAdminIII uses pg_restore by restoration. Then, pg_restore does not recognize a PlainText
format.

Please use psql from a command line...

I have a backup file from Postgresql 8.1.4. When I try to use 8.2.5 pg_restore the restore
doesn't recognize the archive format. The archive file was made with the command below. Is
there a way to get 8.2.5 to recognize the file, or a way to run the file as a script from a
different program like PG_ADMIN III? As far as I can see the archive is text. My postgresql
8.1.4 installation is no longer working.

su --command=/usr/local/pgsql/bin/pg_dump -p 55432 -U postgres -C -D -f /tmp/$(date
+%F)owl.sql owl

Subject: [GENERAL] postgresql connection string to Vb.NET

Hi,

I got a source of connection string at this page,
http://www.connectionstrings.com/default.aspx?carrier=postgresql

I can't test it because it seems i do not add a reference in visual studio 2005.

Where can i download the ODBC or .NET data provider in order to successfully connect to
postgresql from vb.net

Thanks.

Re: [GENERAL] Npgsql GUI problem C#.net

2007-08-29 Thread Hiroshi Saito

Hi.

Please see,
http://npgsql.projects.postgresql.org/exampleprograms.html
This is DataGrid sample. It is very simple composition.
However, Operation may be somewhat difficult at the property
of VS2005. Then, ADO.NET2.0 and Npgsql are not congenial.

Subject: [GENERAL] Npgsql GUI problem C#.net

Hi all,

I'm using C#.net 2005 dealing with Npgsql. I have a very newbie
question about how to use the data received from the database. I've
already connected the database with the program and reading data from
database works very well in the Console application. But in windows
form application, I want use form_load function to call the reading
function, which is confusing since the parameter of the function
String[ ] args. How should I combine this reading function with my
windows form application. This seems a simple question happens in
every GUI application form when accessing to the database, but I
couldn't find any source to help on this yet.

I appreciate any of your help!

Jessie

Hi.

Umm, I don't understand your build environment well
However, The following examination may help to find a problem.

-- long_test.c - start ---
long longval () { return (long) (sizeof (long)); }
unsigned long ulongval () { return (long) (sizeof (long)); }
#include stdio.h
#include stdlib.h
int
main ()
{

 long i = longval ();
 unsigned long ui = ulongval ();
 printf (%ld\n, ((long) (sizeof (long;
 printf (%ld\n, i);
 printf (%lu\n,  ((long) (sizeof (long;
 printf (%lu\n, ui);

 return 0;
}
-- long_test.c - end ---

inet% gcc -o long_test long_test.c
inet% long_test

inet% ldd long_test
long_test:

inet% gcc -v
Using built-in specs.
Configured with: FreeBSD/i386 system compiler
Thread model: posix
gcc version 3.4.4 [FreeBSD] 20050518

I want these to be help you.!

This message bounced from psql-odbc (I suppose because I am not subscribed
there), so I am hoping some kindly soul here will help me!

Hi developers,

In attempting to build psqlodbc from source, I receive the following error
in configure after invoking it by

/configure --with-unixodbc=/usr/local

checking for ssize_t... yes
checking for long... yes
checking size of long... configure: error: cannot compute sizeof (long)
See `config.log' for more details.

I have attached the config.log in order to avoid snipping the important
thing. I notice in the log that it fails reading libodbcinst.so.1, but

lrwxrwxrwx1 root root   20 Jul 19 16:59
/usr/local/lib/libodbcinst.so.1 - libodbcinst.so.1.0.0

[EMAIL PROTECTED] psqlodbc-08.02.0400]$ ls -l
/usr/local/lib/libodbcinst.so.1.0.0 and

-rwxr-xr-x1 root root   310919 Jul 19 16:59
/usr/local/lib/libodbcinst.so.1.0.0 and

/usr/local/lib is in the ldconfig path.

Just prior to this, I installed from source unixodbc 2.2.12 in /usr/local

So, please tell me what I did wrong, and how to fix it.

Thank you.
