Hadn't heard about that one. Sounds like a good way to do it, if you
can find the correct place for it :-)

That is certainly reasonable and I have to admit, I don't follow Perl releases as much as I probably should but I can't remember the last time something I would do in standard perl wouldn't work for every version of perl since 5.6.
