[CamPhilEvents] REMINDER: ANTHONY FISHER at the Serious Metaphysics Group *Tomorrow* 22nd of November
Dear all, A reminder that this coming Wednesday Anthony Fisher (Manchester) will be giving a paper entitled “Thingification in Trope Theory” at the Serious Metaphysics Group (abstract). The seminar will take place at the Philosophy Faculty Board Room from 4.30 to 6.00pm. The talk should last about 45 minutes followed by questions and discussion. Hope to see you there, Carlo Abstract Abstract: A signature doctrine of one-category trope ontology is that substances are bundles of tropes. If this doctrine is correct, it entails a parsimonious gain in ontology: the category of substance is reduced to the category of trope. But there are arguments to show that tropes fail to live up to their explanatory promise of reducing substance to trope because tropes are either mini-substances or charactered like substances. In this paper, I respond to these objections, with a view to clarifying the conceptual foundations of trope theory and the concept of a trope. _ To unsubscribe from the CamPhilEvents mailing list, or change your membership options, please visit the list information page: http://bit.ly/CamPhilEvents List archive: http://bit.ly/CamPhilEventsArchive Please note that CamPhilEvents doesn't accept email attachments.
