Re: [Phono-L] Edison Windsor

2010-07-04 Thread Mike Tucker

Thanks George,

Much appreciated. I will anxiously await any coin op material you have.

I am amazed at the lack of such information in collecting circles and the
huge gap in knowledge that exists regarding these machines. I was
flabbergasted when one senior collector said that he never knew the
Rosenfield M existed.

Amazingly, I have contacted a number of respected collectors and not one can
identify and early Windsor. I would love to be close to the Edison Historic
site so that I could research their material - how much is there still to
learn!!

I have been offered another coin op cabinet which appears to be a small
company production from around the turn of the Century, but nothing I can
identify other than a superficial resemblance to the Empire State model in
the upper area - any thoughts?

Best wishes,

Mike Tucker

Mike,

Cabinets for Edison floor model coin-ops (and I suspect Rosenfields as
well) were manufactured by the Edward Jordan Company in Brooklyn.

I will respond to the email you sent me when I can lay my hands on some
coin-op materials that I've stashed...

Subject: [Phono-L] Edison Windsor

Hi all,

I am undertaking some research on early cabinet style coin ops and am
trying to

identify the early Edison Windsors of 1904 to1906.

Does anyone have photps, ads or information of any type on these
machines.?

Also, who was the cabinetmaker who made the upright cabinets in this
period for

Edison, Rosenfield and others?

Thanks in advance. Mike Tucker

[Phono-L] Yankee Prince Phonograph

2010-07-04 Thread Joe Prindle
Hi,
This is my first post to this list, I have been lurking here for quite a while.
I am a casual collector, having a dozen machines that I have picked up over the
last 25 years. I like my phonographs, but my primary collecting habits are
stationary steam engines, gas engines and early, early tractors.
Anyhow, I recently picked up a disc phonograph and am seeking information. The
machine was sold by O'Neill-James Co. as Yankee Prince. It is a rear mount
disc machine, with a small morning glory horn, a rather plain oak case and a
large, beautiful decal. It is complete and the motor runs, the soundbox and
tone are look good, but the gaskets are in need of replacement. The only thing
I see wrong is that someone removed the rectangular lug (ala Busy Bee) from the
turntable so that they could play regular records.
So, is this machine a model of the Busy Bee? Can anyone give me some details as
to when it was made and by whom? I can get a picture and post a URL to it if
anyone would care to see it.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Joe Prindle
