Re: [Phono-L] Phono-L Digest, Vol 7, Issue 212

2010-12-11 Thread Bob V.
How long ago did you buy the machine? I've had reasonably good success with
eBay resolution center if the item was paid for with PayPal. They currently
hold the money until the buyer posts favorable feedback. Also they have the
sellers bank account # so they can take the funds out of it if the claim is
resolved in your favor. I have a very old Pay Pal account and have never
given them my bank account # and never will. For that reason and a number
of others I no longer sell on eBay.

So once again, eBay's Resolution Center proved to be the pathetic,
worthless joke it always is? I have never had even one single claim be met
with anything but form letters and messages from the utterly confused, much
less resolved.

Best,
Robert

That was pretty much the end of the story. I ended up re-restoring the
machine and it came out reasonably nice. The reason I shared that whole
exchange was it simply had to be read to be believed. I was stunned at the
lack of rational thinking, denial of responsibility, and borderline
psychotic ramblings, not to mention the poor grasp of the most basic
concepts of English grammar and sentence structure... Now I'm getting
personal, so I'll stop. Let's just leave it at caveat emptor. Don

Hello fellow phono enthusiasts. I have been reading the exchange on the
ebay seller known as ANTIQUE EDISON. His name is John Marinacci. I had
the misfortune of purchasing a Victor VI from him off of Ebay about 2
years ago.? For those of you who would like brave the following email
exchange between Mr Marinacci and me, I am sure you will find it most
enlightening... INITIAL EMAIL: Hi John:I received the Victor VI today.
Thank you for the secure packaging. It arrived safely. However,? I am
concerned about the overall condition of the machine . If you remember,
I asked you specifically if the horn had been patched and you said no.
Unfortunately, there are at least 5 areas on the horn that have been
patched and are easily noticeable. Also, the finish is splotchy and
uneven.Secondly, the machine itself has several glaring problems. You
had indicated that all of the gold hardware had been replated. In fact,
everything but the elbow, crank and the corner
posts are just polished brass. The additional gold plating required will
be very expensive. Secondly, there is a 9 crack on the crank hole side
of the case which has obviously been there since before it was
refinished. Also, the finish is very dark and muddy. The backside of the
 machine actually

Hi Bruce,
I learned something new today. I've never heard or seen one of those
records before. We can all speculate as to how it was done but I'd rather
know who had the imagination to think up the idea. Must have ben a hot shot
in the Victor marketing department.

There seems to be lot of conjecture about exactly how many of those records
that Victor made. I always hear of the Conundrum, but never have seen/heard
it. I have the Puzzle Record, which has three starts on each of two
sides. It's a 10 inch. Rust's Victor Master Book tells thyat some (not
all) of the tracks were done by the Mayfair Orchestra (England?). Audio
quality is very good. The stylus sure does go across the record in a hurry!

I'm hoping that someone on the list might have some info on Victor

Puzzle Records. I picked one up the other day titled: The Conundrum - What
Should I Play Next?. Anyone know how many of these were made or how scarce
they might be? I have only seen two of these - the one that I bought and
another by Jimmie Rodgers. Were these a demo of the then current
technology, or were they made for some other purpose? The selections on
this record are four different types of music, which play randomly,
depending on where or when you place the needle - very strange...

I can get one? Thanks
