I have found that if you try NICElY to tell these people about the
instrument they have, they consider it an insult from someone that doesn't
have a clueLOL

Seasons Greetings:
For only $1,000 you can own an Edison Phonograph No.6 now on eBay!  How some
sellers can offer things without knowing a thing about them is beyond me.  This
Amberola 30 has the very rare 'oil spout funnel' horn.  It would be funny but
this seller really thinks the thing is worth the $1,000 opening bid.  If
someone bites then I will be truly astounded.  See eBay item # 281232163262
Merry Christmas to all, may you find something with a crank handle under the
tree,
Al

That was posted on another forum. A real piece of crap. For this price, I think
the seller is smoking crack.

[Phono-L] Capehart Model 1011 M

2013-06-20 Thread Burdette Walters
I have a friend that has a friend that said they had a Capehart tube type radio
phonograph that works. She said it might have a few scratches, but other than
that it is supposed to work fine. She thought it was bought in the 1940s.
Does anyone have any info on this machine? Any idea what could be offered for
it? I collect only wind up phonographs, and my friend says if it doesn't have a
crank sticking out of it, he can't run it LOL (That is actually more true than
not).

[Phono-L] Columbia BC 20th Century

2011-03-11 Thread Burdette Walters
I recently aquired a Columbia B C. The gear that runs the governor had leather
recessed in it, which is gone. The governor runs on the edge, where the teeth
are. Does anyone make these gear, or have an idea how to deal with this
problem?
Also does anyone know how to adjust the reproducer. It plays, but not as loud
as
it should be.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Burdette,
Since you are interested in converting your Ideal to 2/4 minute, have you
considered a horizontal carriage with an oxidized model O reproducer? My
Ideal has been converted that way. Of course, the O requires a mahogany
cygnet horn, which is a bit difficult to find :)

Wow!? One of the extremely rare glass-cased Disk Grapho-Claxtophones!? I

As I understand it, only 5 of these machines were manufactured in a joint
venture by Claxton and Columbia for display at the 1903 World's Fair in
Dubuque, Iowa (theme: Corn: A Benefactor to Man), where the clear case was
intended to display the superioriority of a motor those two firms had developed
over that employed by Victor in its top-end machines.? None were thought to
have survived the trip back to the Columbia factory following the exhibition,
as a careless rail baggage clerk dropped the shipping case in which they had
been packed, but I guess one must have after all.? That is a major rarity, and
I'm really excited to see it.? Thanks for sharing!? I hope that whoever buys it
knows how to restore that case.? The best bet would probably be Black Windex,
which combines regular glass cleaner
 with rotten stone abrasive to
remove the century-plus accumulation of fingerprints and grime.
