Re: [Phono-L] MS on Ebay
Thoughts about this machine: It appears to have originated in Montevideo, Uruguay, per the celluloid dealer tag and also does not appear to have been drilled for a front mount bracket. Could this have been made by Victor for South American sales using leftover cases, motors and other parts? Otherwise, it may be a reproduction case, since I have seen some beautiful reproduction Victor VI cases, which could fool anyone, that were made in South America... Also, for such a fancy Monarch case, it is made of straight grained oak, as opposed to the more likely quarter-sawn oak used by Victor at that time. Is this a put together Victor MS? A pre-dog case and motor with the record hold down spindle but with a late drop in elbow back bracket and horn elbow. I don't believe the horn would have the alignment button on top either. Re: [Phono-L] MS on Ebay
The seller has dealt with phonos before and is fairly knowledgeable both about antiques in general and phonos in particular. I think he would have spotted a repro cabinet. I am also pretty certain that he would not knowingly mis-represent anything in the sale.
