Thanks for your patience, folks. I've still got a few things to bring back on line, such as the Phono-L home page and the chat room. But it's been a long day, so it's "Miller time!" I'll be back at it tomorrow. From steve_nor...@msn.com Tue Nov 11 16:21:32 2008 From: steve_nor...@msn.com (Steven Medved) Date: Tue Nov 11 16:21:43 2008 Subject: [Phono-L] Clutch shifting lever bracket Message-ID: <bay139-w26c9b15fb44feea0c8cdd3f6...@phx.gbl> Hi Art, Edison called this assembly the clutch shifting lever bracket. Edison made upgrade kits for 2 minute phonographs. Most of the D and higher models have the decal so you can tell if the machine is in 2 or 4 minute. For the 2 minute home and triumph Edison made the clutch shifting lever bracket with the pointer so you could tell if the phono was in 2 or 4 minute after it was upgraded. The shifter moves the clutch casing which shifts gears and allows the feed screw to turn at half the speed (80 rpm) for 4 minute while keeping the mandrel turning at 160 rpm, or at 160 rpm in 2 minute. On the D and higher models the clutch casing has a raised rim that allows you move it. For the Home and Triumph Edison made 5 different upgrade mandrels, two for the home and three for the triumph, they are all marked with the model(s) they fit. Later he also made kits that included large carriages and the diamond B so the earlier phonos could play as well as the later models. He wanted to Amberolize the earlier cylinder phonograph and I have seen a photo of a home with a diamond B reproducer that had the 2/4 decal removed. According to Frow it was August 1919 when he offered the diamond B kits to update the (estimated 90% of the still 2 minute only of the two million) home, standards, and triumphs so they could play the blue amberols. Any corrections or requests for additional information is welcome. Message-ID: <c57.4694c610.364b8...@wmconnect.com> Steve, Isn't this the same ebay seller that stole Tim's photograph from his page selling an Edison? Take a look at the feedback...A great big 0! This looks like a professional photograph of an exceptional machine. I know the market is down a bit, but come on, a Victor III in this condition (any presentable condition really) for $700.00. As my mother used to say, "Something smells fishy here!" And 'dog gone' it, look at the shipping charges. The seller must also provide door to door delivery himself! By the way, does anyone know how I can contact Charley Hummell? Thanks to all for a fantastic thread. Brantley Williston, S.C.
