[PHP] installing php5

[PHP] imap problem
I downloaded imap as indicated on php.net/imap, compiled it, and recompiled php with --with=imap. Ok everything worked fine, no error messages, but when I call the function imap_open() I get the following: Fatal error: Call to undefined function: imap_open() in /usr/apache/htdocs/mail.php on line 43 Does anyone know where the error could be?
