[PHP] Select distinct error!

Hi,
I' m trying to execute a "select distinct" command on a table and I get the 
following error:
ERROR 1022: Can't write, duplicate key in table 'pmall'
My table is about 2,7 MBytes.
Does anybody knows what's wrong?
I use MySQL 3.23.40 on a Solaris 7 (intel) machine.
