[PHP] Zend Certification

2006-04-07 Thread Ray Hauge
Hello All,

I've been thinking about taking the ZCE test. I want to, but I also want it
to be current for as long as possible. Should I wait for it to be revised
for PHP5, or are they even going to update it? I just don't want to end up
taking it and then a few months later have it be outdated because it was
for PHP4, and not PHP5.

Thanks,

If taking the exam now makes different to you then go for it, actually I
scheduled the exam 29 April bluntly just for the sake of salary
increment heh

My info may be dated but AFAIK the exam is $200 - so what if you have to
take one one month and another the next? That (assuming PHP5 was the same
price) would still only be $400. I don't want to sound petty, but what's
another $200 for a second certification - having both will give you that
long_time_user status.

[PHP] ZEND Certification

2006-04-05 Thread Bobby Matthis
I'm sure this has been asked in the past, but I figured up to date info
never hurts. I'm going to be scheduling my certification soon, but I wanted
to hear from any of you that recently got zend certified recently and if you
had any advice.

Is there any particular portion I should make sure I have strong knowledge
of more than any other?

Any sites with good advice for this exam?

I have read countless online tutorials, but perhaps there are some good ones
out there I have passed upany good links?

I have read the official Zend Certification guide - which with all the
grammatical mistakes, I still was able to make sense of 98% of it or at
least knew that when they made a mistake, I knew it was a mistake and what
should have been there.

Anyway, any certification advice, any at all would be much
appreciated...

Thanks,
B

Ok, what should I expect from the certification then?
Was there any question you didn't expect or anything you didn't know?? If
yes, what was it?

It seems like not many people took it as I am reading some emails here...
like How to get variable after the form is sent etc...

I have looked at yellow pages, seems like you're not there either, Rory
Browne...

If many people here have taken it, can someone please answer my questions
above? Thank you!

There are new users on this list, but there are also some very
experienced programmers here. You'll note that questions such as How
to get variable after the form is sent, as well as much more
complicated questions are usually answered here.

All quoting the above sentence indicates is that not everyone here is
experienced. Everyone has to start somewhere, and this list encourages
learning, as well as black-voodoo-magic-trick swapping.

I have looked at yellow pages, seems like you're not there either, Rory

That might have something to do with the fact that I've never done the
exam. However I'm well capable of dealing with forms and variables, as
well as pretty much almost anything else PHP related. I've also read
many threads here over time in which people outlined their opinions,
and offered help on the matter. Forgive me if this seems a bit
defensive, but I don't know what you're getting at.

If many people here have taken it, can someone please answer my questions
 above? Thank you!
Your questions are very broad, so nobody can give more than generic
answers. Check out

Perhaps it came across as a bit cheeky to Aaron - I kind of got the
impression that an answer from someone who has had a go but not passed
the exam was not good enough for you...

Really, I doubt whether there is any difference in doing the exam
whatever the outcome, seeing as what you wanted to know was about
taking the exam in the first place.

That's exactly the impression I got too Chris. Glad I'm not the only
one to see it that way! I felt a bit inadequate there for a moment. :)

Regardless, my advice still stands (if it still matters coming from a
unsuccessful exam taker) -- don't rush the exam and take your time.
Some of the questions are tricky in their wording.

As an aside -- for those who are unsuccessful with the exam, don't
worry, it doesn't mean your a bad programmer. I've been programming PHP
for five years now, and there's very little I can't do with it.

I just stink at exams; I get antsy when sitting for 30-60 minutes with
just a pencil and paper in a quiet room.

For me all that matter is jus knowing wat's gonna be up at the exam.

When I said someone who passed it realy wanned to know how to tackel the
whole thing... u might fail once n pass the second time.
I still dont get/understand the negative way of looking at my question. In
all the cases thanks for your replies. Will never put such a question up
here.

If you think it's easy based on the guide, you're probably fine,
particularly if you think the practice questions were easy. Those
questions were ones that were thrown out due to being too tricky or
difficult, so the questions on the exam are more straightforward.

I posted the answers to Zend's self test (plus explanations), in case
