Cheers Andy, between my last post and this one I came up with a rather
long-winded way of doing it...
$dayarray = getdate(mktime(0,0,0,$month,$date,$year));
switch ($dayarray["wday"]) {
case 0:
$day = "Sunday";
break;
case 1:
$day = "Monday";
break;
case 2:
$day = "Tuesday";
break;
case 3:
$day = "Wednesday";
break;
case 4:
$day = "Thursday";
break;
case 5:
$day = "Friday";
break;
case 6:
$day = "Saturday";
break;
}
Ugh. I'll try your method.

Hmmm. I did:
$timestamp = mktime(0,0,0,$month,$date,$year);
$day = date("1", $timestamp);
and it returns 1, no matter what the contents of $month, $date and $year
are. Did I miss something?

Yes, you're missing the fact that it's a lowercase 'L', and not in fact the
numeral '1'.
