hi all,
ive been converting working cameras into pinhole
cameras.
ive been using a brownie for 120 and a fedka (russian
copy of leica) for 35mm.
heres the problem, the chromes ive got from my fed
have a 'hot spot' in the exact center,
an overexposed point on every frame, aside from that
the results have been good.
my brownie experiments dont have this at all, and both
cameras use a drilled brass plate for the apperature
and all glass lenses have been removed.
of course the pinhole for the brownie is further away
from the film, about 5, than the pinhole on the 35mm,
about 1 3/4 to 2 1/2 respectively by collapsing and
extending the lens.
anyone else ever get this or know why?
thank you.

Anybody interested? (of course, you would have to remove the lens...)

Otherwise, it will go to the dump.

well george the quality of some of those free sites are poor at best the
amount of people seeing your work can be nil.at least you can see what the
outside world thinks of your images since most artists are to close to their
work to be objective.
I agree with you George. I was curious and took a look at
www.photosig.com. Its a very impressive site, perfect for a photo
community. I try to keep up with the direction things take on the web and
I think the photosig site may well be a milestone in this type of
community. It combines discussion and image viewing very nicely. I have
written to Willis Boyce, the developer of the site to see if he would
consider sharing his code. He uses the same programming language I use on
the Pinhole Visions site, so it would be easy to implement a similar site
for the discussion list if he is agreeable. If not, then I am considering
doing something somewhat similar myself. This will take a while, but it
fits in with the direction I have wanted to take things for some time -
combining a forum with an on-line gallery. The forum by itself did
not go over well this past year, but I think it might be used more if
combined directly with the gallery. What I would set up would require
members to register (the same as the discussion list) before posting
images or in the forum (in order to keep down the spammers, etc.), but
anyone could view images and postings. I would be interested in other's
thoughts about this.

- Gregg

hey greg go for it !the posting on this site is ok but not conducive to
viewing[you can't even tell who or what was done to the images.I wish you good
luck.

See, I just knew that the twice-or-three-times-as-expensive Epsons would be

While pondering flatbed scanners that will also do 35mm transparencies, I
happened to mention to a guy off-list that I might rather get a standard
flatbed scanner and figure out some way to turn off the internal light
source and use an external light source for transparency scans (which is all
that a flatbed with a transparency adaptor seems to do anyway, as far as I
can see).

They guy I was exchanging email with said Many standard flatbed scanners
allow you to turn off the internal light by selecting transparency in the
Software (TWAIN driver). You can then cut a piece of cardboard to fit over
the scanner with a hole cut to the slide size and then place a light over
the slide.

This, I did not know. I was all set to grab my screwdrivers, soldering
iron, Dremel and a switch... and here it might be doable in software.

Has anyone out there done this? Anyone use the TWAIN transparency mode to
turn off internal illumination and then light transparencies or negs with
external illumination? I figure there's be enough nuts bolts hackers,
geeks and general DIY kinda folks on this this that someone may have tried
this...
