2001-02-17 Thread Temi
James,
I like the logo but on my PC the center hole does not show clearly. It
seems to compete with the colors in the globe itself.Does anyone else
find this also. Maybe the globe could be lightened and the "pinhole" in
the center colored "black" and then it would show up better. Another
thought is that you might want to make the background transparent so
that the logo could be used in various places.

Hi all

my own preferences:
1) date : every year, last Sunday of April, i.e. in 2001, Sunday April 29
th.
2) Name : World Wide Pinhole Photography Day
3) www site : www.pinholephoto-day.org which remains simple but would be
more explicit than www.pinholeday.com .
4) Logo : nice idea, James ! But I think that "Americas centered" earth is a
problem and not only a "minor detail" as Guillermo notes. It must be
possible to have a more open representation of planet Earth. I also think
that it would be best to have a sharper hole, faster to read inside the
picture; I like the black-lined hole on Colin Talcroft's page
http://www.sonic.net/~talcroft/wppdlogo2.jpg
but I think the size of the hole should be a little smaller.

With all these messages about WWPPD, don't forget, folks, to take time for
pinholing...
Cheers from France through a pinhole ,

Regarding the WPPD logo, how about using a Mollweide projection map,
similar to the one found at:

to represent the "world". Just a thought.

Also, I second www.pinholeday.org for the url -- catchy, short,

[pinhole-discussion] I support world pinhole day!

2001-02-17 Thread James Provenzano
Hi all,

It has been a while since I've contributed to the list. I really like
the idea of world pinhole day.

1. I vote is support of world pinhole day being the last Sunday in the
April - thus, this year, the 29th.

2. I would favor a logo that reflects something pinhole, rather than
just the lens pic of the earth.

3. It has been a couple of years since a small group of pinholers in NY
area got together - can I suggest that we meet again at MOMA in early
April - who knows, we could come up with some ideas for World Pinhole
Day!

4. I unfortunately do not have means to help put images on a web site,
but I am prepared to help in other ways - I agree that a smaller group
from the list sort out the logistics, similar to what was done for
swaps, etc.

Looking forward to all this to come! Cheers.

we start getting ahead of yourselfs. Remember this might happen this year
and then fizzle out next year. How about if I take care of the first year,
and then we see what happens.

It's been a long time ago but, I did collect $8.00 from the membership when
it looked like we were going to have to pay for having a non advertized
discussion list. Thanks to Gregg Kemp who came up with the alturnitive that
we are all using now. BTW Thanks Greg. I then asked if we wanted to put this
and other future funds towards becoming a Contributing member to the Pinhole
Resorce. At that time I was hoping to collect between $50-$75 and I would
kick in the rest, but all I recivied was $4. To tell you the truth I had
forgotten about this until Guy suggested sending me money. The $12 is still
in my dresser. Let me know what you all think.

I like World Wide Pinhole Photography Day. The WW clearly IMO speaks about
the universality of the event and also about that is happening in cyberspace
(WORLD WIDE -web-).

As for James registering a domain, that can only help to the "seriousness"
of the event. As for the name, I don't think it necessarily has to be
WWW.exact_description_or_name_of_the_event_or_organization.COM , and
www.WWPPD.com doesn't really describe the event, except to us. Something
simpler like www.PINHOLEDAY.com or perhaps www.pinholeday.ORG tells more.
The actual name of the event, in this case should be inside de web page.

A minor detail about the logo is that it depicts the Americas only.

If paying for a domain reg. is OK with James, it is OK with me.

Just thought I'd mention that if you are looking to register a name, you may
want to do it at www.domainsite.com. I've registered a couple of sites there
