Re: [pinhole-discussion] problems with cyanotypes
The chemistry must be mixed EXACTLY according to directions. Part A and part B must be combined in equal amounts JUST before applying. ***The paper must be bone dry after applying chemistry and before putting on the neg. and exposing. The exposure should be long enough for the image (by inspection) begins to turn grey...and then some. Wash in cold water until the water is clear. You may make a solution of a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in a tray of water. The image will turn an intense blue. Good Luck. leezy
Re: [pinhole-discussion] Heading to England
Hi Catherine, To clear Type 55 film you can use a regular dilution of PermaWash instead of Sodium Sulfite which is difficult to dilute. Just keep the film wet until you return home for clearing and washing...use Photoflo at the end. For the dreamy effect, you may want to try a zone plate pinhole. Good Luck...keep us informed. leezy

Set enlarger at an appropriate f stop...(never change f stop) 4. Using a #5 filter, make a test 5. Process normally 6. Select a time (maximum black for minimum time) 7. Put another sheet of enlarging paper in the easel 8. Make an exposure, with the #5 filter, that you decided would be the best time 9. Change nothing but remove the #5 filter and replace with #0 filter 10. Make another test with the #0 filter over the #5 filter exposure 11. Process 12. Select and redo at two best settings...one exposure for #5, one exposure over it for #0 • It may still be necessary to do some dodging and burning, but less than with single filter printing. * It may sometimes advisable to use a combination of different filters...#4 & #0.#5 & #1, etc. depending upon the negative and the desired results. Other than that, I don't know. <> I never did filtration while shooting. (WillieAnn Wright used filtration in making Ilfochromes, then Cibas). Without filtration in the negative-creation stage, the image comes out orange. When you try to make a contact print, the resulting image is cyan. If you include cyan in you filter packlots of cyan, you begin to see some realistic looking color. It's back and forth with numerous attempts in the filter pack (dialing) but with patience you'll get somewhere. It's never 100% realistic color. The real problem for me is when I try to take the color paper negative and make a DIGITAL positive from it. THAT has been very difficult. Anybody here have any suggestions or experience with that? I like this thread. Cheers to all my fellow pinholers. leezy

Set you enlarger lens wide open and make a test print. The problem is focusing. You can use a film negative to do that and then substitute the paper neg...if you have trouble focusing. It works...with an extended exposure. You can dodge and burn and I maybe use filters. leezy
