As of encfs 1.4.1.1, some programs seem to have trouble with file
operations on encrypted mounts. The ones I discovered are:
  - openoffice 2.4: a general error is reported on saving files.
  - digicam 0.9.3: can not create it's image database.

Downgrading encfs to 1.3.2 fixes the two problems.

Thanks for the report. AFAICS the only difference in the IO operations
is a non-successfull responste to fcntl(..., F_SETLK, ...). However this
should not be reported to user as IO error while saving file. At least
the latest OpenOffice tells the reason, the previous version really
reported such general IO error nonsense. However, the proper solution
should allow the user to ignore the limitations of the filesystem.

That said, I am checking the ulockmgr issues in encfs now; expect a fix
 RSN.

 Eduard.

Version: 3.1.1-2
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I tried to install gwenview, digikam and kphotoalbum with

apt-get install gwenview kphotoalbum digikam

I got several unmet dependencies so I installed them with

apt-get install kdebase-kio-plugins libkdcraw3 libkexiv2-3 libkipi0

After that the previous apt-get install command succeeded and the package was
installed correctly.

I'm sorry that I didn't save the exact error message for every package, but
all 3 image applications had unmet dependencies and didn't install.

Matthias,

Unfortunately sometimes the unstable distribution does not support all
dependencies at all times, when you get this error message it should state
you should try again later.

For example if you try and install twinkle at present you will get the
message:

# apt-get install twinkle
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

However digikam, gwenview and kphotoalbum all appear to install fine at
present from unstable so I'm closing these reports.

when the digikam3.db is over NFS, digikam claims he cannot build the
db. I've been forced to make it a symlink to a local file to make it
work. I suspect it's a locking problem, but at least, the error message
should be more complete (atm it just says digikam is not able to create
the database ?!)

Given that the uncfs bug has been closed:

 http://bugs.debian.org/466316

Can the associated digikam bug report be closed?
 http://bugs.debian.org/468241

What about asking upstream? I cannot see any work done on this part:

should not be reported to user as IO error while saving file. At least
the latest OpenOffice tells the reason, the previous version really
reported such general IO error nonsense. However, the proper solution
should allow the user to ignore the limitations of the filesystem.

So, why does it need to lock the file when storing a new one?

But if you like closing it as-is, feel free to do that. I don't care much.

Regards,
Eduard.

Overall, it is nice to have the right sidebar instead of the popup box
for entering comments.

However, it is no longer possible to enter comments for many pictures
at once using just the keyboard. There appears to be no shortcut for
the next image button, and even when it is clicked, the Comments
area loses focus.

In previous versions of Digikam, I think it was Alt-F that would go
forward to the next image for entering comments.

It's the same as with version 0.9.1-2 (Bug number: 418251). Everytime selecting
an
preview image to display it digikam crashes instantly with SIGABRT.
I even tried with a new album with newly imported pictures.
