I cannot sign or encrypt messages using Enigmail (enigmail and icedove from Stretch). Decrypting messages doesn't work too. Enigmail is still able to check validity of a signature though. I agree that it still does something, but I would not call the package usable. Its main purpose is really not to check signatures, but to help signing/encrypting messages. So the severity should reflect that.
