Bug#390740: marked as done (terminatorx: freezes when loading compressed audio)

Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 390740: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=390740 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems --- Begin Message --- Package: terminatorx Version: 3.82-7 Severity: important When running terminatorX (sid/i386 build 3.82-7) I am consistently getting freezes (the UI stops responding) when opening Ogg Vorbis and MP3 files. This is resolved on my system by rebuilding the package with the following 'configure' arguments in debian/rules: ./configure --host=$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE) --build=$(DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE) \ --prefix=/usr \ --mandir=/usr/share/man \ --enable-wav --enable-xsetpointer \ --enable-alsa --enable-jack --enable-oss \ --enable-mad --enable-vorbis \ --enable-suidroot --enable-capabilities \ --disable-sox --disable-ogg123 --disable-mpg123 \ gnomedatadir=/usr/share/ \ gnomepresent=yes The resulting build has working Ogg Vorbis and MP3 support and does not depend on sox, vorbis-tools or mpg321 either at build time or run time. It would be great if this could be fixed in etch. Let me know if there's anything more I can do to help. I can provide patches if necessary, but that seemed rather overkill for such a simple matter. For more information please have a look at [1], [2] and [3]. debian/compat is already 9, so hardening flags are enabled by default via dpkg-buildflags. The only problem is that the build system (Makefile) doesn't respect compiler flags from the environment. The attached patch fixes this by updating the Makefile. The following patch disables quiet builds so missing flags can be detected easily: diff -Nru alsaequal-0.6/debian/rules alsaequal-0.6/debian/rules --- alsaequal-0.6/debian/rules 2012-01-12 21:52:28.0 +0100 +++ alsaequal-0.6/debian/rules 2012-03-05 21:08:33.0 +0100 @@ -3,6 +3,9 @@ DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH ?= $(shell dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_MULTIARCH) LIBDIR = lib/$(DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH) +# Disable quiet builds. +export Q= + %: dh $@ To check if all flags were correctly enabled you can use `hardening-check` from the hardening-includes package: $ hardening-check /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/alsa-lib/libasound_module_ctl_equal.so /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_equal.so /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/alsa-lib/libasound_module_ctl_equal.so: Position Independent Executable: no, regular shared library (ignored) Stack protected: no, not found! I noticed that on 32-bit (i386/i686) systems the executable wvunpack only handles .wv files of size about 2 GB. I'm using wavpack for compressing 96/32 wav-files of typical audio CD length. The resulting .wv files sometimes exceed the 2GB limit. Using the source package I could recompile wvunpack such that the problem is resolved for me. But I suggest to change the debian build script such that wvunpack can deal with large file by default. Unfortunately, I'm not so familiar with the Debian build details to just send a patch for the debian/rules file. But here is what I did. # on some Ubuntu i686 version apt-get source wavpack cd wavpack-* ./configure --enable-mmx CC="gcc -D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64" make # and to get a portable binary for various Debian/Ubuntu systems cd cli rm wvunpack make # (to get an idea for the following line) gcc -D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -I../include -mmmx -g -O2 -o .libs/wvunpack wvunpack-wvunpack.o wvunpack-utils.o wvunpack-md5.o ../src/.libs/libwavpack.a -lm -static --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: wavpack Source-Version: 4.60.1-3 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of wavpack, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: libwavpack-dev_4.60.1-3_amd64.deb to main/w/wavpack/libwavpack-dev_4.60.1-3_amd64.deb libwavpack1_4.60.1-3_amd64.deb to main/w/wavpack/libwavpack1_4.60.1-3_amd64.deb wavpack_4.60.1-3.debian.tar.gz to main/w/wavpack/wavpack_4.60.1-3.debian.tar.gz wavpack_4.60.1-3.dsc to main/w/wavpack/wavpack_4.60.1-3.dsc wavpack_4.60.1-3_amd64.deb to main/w/wavpack/wavpack_4.60.1-3_amd64.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
