I took a look at this, but it appears the cmake build is not yet up to
par with the autotools build:

1. It lacks SO versioning
2. It does not build documentation

So I guess we can continue with the autotools for the time being.

i think the wisdom tends towards not shipping it.
however, in order to make the experience for users of the Debian package
similar to those who installed directly from upstream, it might be a
good idea to try to convince upstream (backed up by the multi-arch wiki)
that *they* should dump it.
