I shows up with all data using GNOME Software from testing here...
Can you find it with appstreamcli?
Does running `apt update` help?

It's slightly outdated because I only have limited time and a lot of
projects and packages to care for - updating GS will happen
eventually, as soon as I find the time.

Jup, there are some Ubuntu-specific things missing in asgen still
(langpacks support), as soon as that is in place Ubuntu can use the
new solution.
I am working with Laney on that (or rather, Laney is working on that ^^)

Could you please check with the gnome-software that's in testing?
Although this bug was noticed on Ubuntu, I did confirm that vlc is
missing in Debian Testing before filing this bug.

And how about getting gnome-software updated in Debian? 3.20.4 has
quite a few bug fixes.

It's definitely showing up in Debian Testing, I just checked that. It
is visible in GNOME Software and has all the data when I run
`appstreamcli get vlc.desktop --details` too.
(the only difference here might be that I am running GNOME Software
git master, but that really shouldn't have an impact).

Jup, this issue is preventing VLC from showing up in the results. It
likely happens due to Ubuntu's Contents file being not up-to-date,
which the old dep11-generator tool Ubuntu uses still relies on.

Debian looks fine - no error means the data is included, hints are
just informations on how to improve data.

The long-term solution for this problem is to use appstream-generator,
the same tool Debian uses, which is a rewrite of the old tool Ubuntu
is still using. Iain Lane is working on that, and I hope this will
become ready in the Yakkety cycle.
A short-term fix will be having someone (Laney) reprocess the vlc
package and checking that Ubuntu's Contents.gz file is up-to-date.

First of all a big thanx to the whole multimedia team for taking such
good care of us (the users) for so many years and making life simpler
for us.

Now, I read #831537 and while the bug seems to have been fixed in the
git repo. it is yet to flow down to us (i.e. the users). But more than
that, a new upstream version has been launched by mpv.io with the
following statement -

"Note: Running mpv with different versions of the FFmpeg/Libav
libraries than it was compiled with is no longer supported. Even
supposedly ABI-compatible versions have been a source of trouble, and
it creates far too much complexity with little to no benefit, coupled
with absurd and unusable FFmpeg API artifacts.

Instead, mpv will exit with an error when such a situation is
detected. This simply means that mpv needs to be rebuilt whenever
FFmpeg libraries change."

What this probably means in long-term that the multimedia team would
have to either of these three things -

a. Abandon mpv
b. Maintain mpv independantly and use ffmpeg versions that we are
comfortable with, OR lastly
c. Move to a scenario where both ffmpeg and mpv are in sync with each other.

The 3rd may not be possible as it would probably would mean more
transition cycles and to deal with the fall-outs of rebuilding
failures along with other things. The first option would be easiest
but like many people, I have started using mpv more than any other
media player so I would be sad to see it go, if that happens.

The second option seems to be where we are now and at least for the
short-term this is where we probably would be for sometime.

People could use this bug as an excuse as what they see the roadmap in
the next 6-8 months to a year in respect of mpv and the ffmpeg
libraries.

I don't think that's very likely in this case, as the 1.6-beta2 tag was
made a while ago. It might be better to handle this discrepancy at the
Debian end.

I'd appreciate any help with getting this package uploaded correctly.

Hydrogen package - bug #629107

Hi all,

There is something going wrong with the current debian/rules
in the Hydrogen package.
The files for the manual/tutorial are not built, which result
in an empty window when trying to access those from the application.

I've been trying to look at that but request some help here
since I don't quite understand what's going on.

You don't actually need to do that (and arguably you should not repack
orig tarballs unless you need to). For source format "3.0 (quilt)",
dpkg-source contains a set of regexes for files which are automatically
ignored when generating the final source package. .gitignore (and .git/)
are on the list so any changes you make to upstream's .gitignore are
completely ignored by dpkg-source.

Yes that's the reason we have to rename 1.6- to 1.6~ because 1.6-beta2
would later considered higher version then 1.6 but 1.6~beta2 lower.
Actually we should repack ( to get rid of upstream .gitignore file and
use our .gitignore file ) and rename.

For repacking I would use get-orig-source

Yes, that was probably my fault, the upstream release name is 1.6-beta2.

I archived it from a local clone of https://github.com/xwax/xwax/ but on
http://xwax.org/download.html version 1.5 is shown as the latest.

The beta cycle is very long for xwax, so it makes sense that Debian
packaged the beta1 release already.

Thanks for the experimental upload. However that didn't drop the libjasper-dev
build-dependency, although kodi-bin no longer depends on libjasper. Can you also
drop the build-dependency on your next upload?

This looks buggy, see below.

It already does: vlc -> libvlccore8 -> vlc-data. So whenever the desktop file is
installed, the icon is available.

So maybe ask the Gnome maintainers why vlc is not listed first.
