It's definitely showing up in Debian Testing, I just checked that. It is visible in GNOME Software and has all the data when I run `appstreamcli get vlc.desktop --details` too. Jup, this issue is preventing VLC from showing up in the results. It likely happens due to Ubuntu's Contents file being not up-to-date, which the old dep11-generator tool Ubuntu uses still relies on. >>> Debian also has an appstream issues page but maybe the generator needs >>> updating: https://appstream.debian.org/sid/main/issues/vlc.html Debian looks fine - no error means the data is included, hints are just informations on how to improve data. >>> I think this could be fixed if vlc depended on vlc-data. vlc provides >>> the binary and the .desktop but vlc-data is needed for the app icons. >> It already does: vlc -> libvlccore8 -> vlc-data. The long-term solution for this problem is to use appstream-generator, the same tool Debian uses, which is a rewrite of the old tool Ubuntu is still using. Iain Lane is working on that, and I hope this will become ready in the Yakkety cycle. A short-term fix will be having someone (Laney) reprocess the vlc package and checking that Ubuntu's Contents.gz file is up-to-date. Cheers, Matthias -- I welcome VSRE emails. Now, I read #831537 and while the bug seems to have been fixed in the git repo. it is yet to flow down to us (i.e. the users). But more than that, a new upstream version has been launched by mpv.io with the following statement - "Note: Running mpv with different versions of the FFmpeg/Libav libraries than it was compiled with is no longer supported. Even supposedly ABI-compatible versions have been a source of trouble, and it creates far too much complexity with little to no benefit, coupled with absurd and unusable FFmpeg API artifacts. Instead, mpv will exit with an error when such a situation is detected. This simply means that mpv needs to be rebuilt whenever FFmpeg libraries change." https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/releases What this probably means in long-term that the multimedia team would have to either of these three things - a. Abandon mpv b. Maintain mpv independantly and use ffmpeg versions that we are comfortable with, OR lastly c. Move to a scenario where both ffmpeg and mpv are in sync with each other. The 3rd may not be possible as it would probably would mean more transition cycles and to deal with the fall-outs of rebuilding failures along with other things. The first option would be easiest but like many people, I have started using mpv more than any other media player so I would be sad to see it go, if that happens. The second option seems to be where we are now and at least for the short-term this is where we probably would be for sometime. People could use this bug as an excuse as what they see the roadmap in the next 6-8 months to a year in respect of mpv and the ffmpeg libraries. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (600, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable-debug'), (500, 'testing-debug'), (1, 'experimental-debug'), (1, 'experimental'), (1, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.6.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages mpv depends on: ii libasound2 1.1.1-2 ii libass5 0.13.2-1 ii libavcodec577:3.1.1-3 ii libavdevice57 7:3.1.1-3 ii libavfilter67:3.1.1-3 ii libavformat57 7:3.1.1-3 ii libavutil55 7:3.1.1-3 ii libbluray1 1:0.9.3-2 ii libc6 2.23-4 ii libcdio-cdda1 0.83-4.2+b1 ii libcdio-paranoia1 0.83-4.2+b1 ii libcdio13 0.83-4.2+b1 ii libdrm2 2.4.70-1 ii libdvdnav4 5.0.3-1 ii libdvdread4 5.0.3-1 ii libegl1-mesa [libegl1-x11] 11.2.2-1 ii libenca01.18-1 ii libgl1-mesa-glx [libgl1]11.2.2-1 ii libguess1 1.2-1.1 ii libjack0 [libjack-0.116]1:0.124.1+20140122git5013bed0-3 ii libjpeg62-turbo 1:1.5.0-1 ii liblcms2-2 2.7-1 ii liblua5.2-0 5.2.4-1 ii libpulse0 9.0-1.1 ii librubberband2 1.8.1-6+b1 ii libsdl2-2.0-0 2.0.4+dfsg2-1 ii libsndio6.1 1.1.0-2 ii libswresample2 7:3.1.1-3 ii libswscale4 7:3.1.1-3 ii libva-wayland1 1.7.1-2 ii libva-x11-1 1.7.1-2 ii libva1 1.7.1-2 ii libvdpau1 1.1.1-3 ii

Hi Jaromír, hi James, > Or maybe the best ... asking upstream if he could name his releases > with ~ as - breaking our automatic system for watching new releases. I don't think that's very likely in this case, as the 1.6-beta2 tag was made a while ago. It might be better to handle this discrepancy at the Debian end. Hydrogen package - bug #629107
Hi all, There is something going wrong with the current debian/rules in the Hydrogen package. The files for the manual/tutorial are not built, which result in an empty window when trying to access those from the application. I've been trying to look at that but request some help here since I don't quite understand what's going on. All of the information about this issue can be found here : https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=629107 including a link to https://github.com/hydrogen-music/hydrogen/issues/74 where one will be able to find more contextual information (hopefuly). Hope that helps, Olivier ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

You don't actually need to do that (and arguably you should not repack orig tarballs unless you need to). For source format "3.0 (quilt)", dpkg-source contains a set of regexes for files which are automatically ignored when generating the final source package. .gitignore (and .git/) are on the list so any changes you make to upstream's .gitignore are completely ignored by dpkg-source. Actually we should repack ( to get rid of upstream .gitignore file and use our .gitignore file ) and rename. Hi Jaromír, >> looks like named orig source as 1.6-beta2-1 instead of 1.6~beta2-1 >> > (-/~) which cause problem when building with --pristine-tar Yes, that was probably my fault, the upstream release name is 1.6-beta2. > How did you get orig tarball? ... I guess that you download it > manually because watch file showing 1.5 release as latest release. I archived it from a local clone of https://github.com/xwax/xwax/ but on http://xwax.org/download.html version 1.5 is shown as the latest. The beta cycle is very long for xwax, so it makes sense that Debian packaged the beta1 release already. > Let's fix watch file first to new location of releases. I've done that in: https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-multimedia/xwax.git/commit/?id=ee27698b3abfed1810e0a245d687d7f9e021bfa1 > Than $ uscan --debug --force-download should give you latest release > automatically. uscan works, but there is a slight discrepancy because of the tilde in the Debian version: $ uscan --report-status Processing watchfile line for package xwax... Newest version on remote site is 1.6-beta2, local version is 1.6~beta2 xwax: Newer version (1.6-beta2) available on remote site: https://github.com/xwax/xwax/archive/1.6-beta2.zip (local version is 1.6~beta2) Cheers! Thanks for the experimental upload. However that didn't drop the libjasper-dev build-dependency, although kodi-bin no longer depends on libjasper. Can you also drop the build-dependency on your next upload?
