Bug#724958: gmusicbrowser: New upstream version

 Hi,

gmusicbrowser 1.1.10 has been available for a couple of months now. I
see that initial work on this release is in the VCS. It would be great
if this work could be finished and a new package uploaded to Debian.

 Thanks,
 Jon

I actually have the fixes for this in Ubuntu, I just need to commit them
to the VCS and request uploading. I'll try to get to that soon.

Thanks,
Micah

Bug#717779: npapi-vlc: Missing build dependency

2013-07-24 Thread Micah Gersten
Package: npapi-vlc
Version: 2.0.6-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu saucy ubuntu-patch

libx11-xcb-dev is needed to build for x11-xcb.pc, in Debian this is pulled in
through other dependencies, but it isn't in Ubuntu. As it's currently not
FTBFS due to an implementation detail in Debian, I've marked this as important.

Thanks!

In Ubuntu, the attached patch was applied to achieve the following:

  * Add libx11-xcb-dev to build dependencies to fix FTBFS
- update debian/control

Bug#682948: Incorrect versioning scheme disturbs upgrading

suffix might be used for the future versions of the official packages.

I mean the versioning scheme like 2.63.1 is generally necessary, not
 only for my PPA's packages.

I do not find it necessary for Debian to follow a naming scheme used
in Ubuntu, just as upstream should not worry about Debian when they
choose a naming scheme. Ubuntu developers are strongly encouraged to
help maintain packages in Debian as a better alternative to try
second-guess future naming of Debian packages.

When Ubuntu introduces packages in their repos that does not exist in
Debian, there is a real risk of diverging from Debian. It only makes
sense to me to treat Debian as upstream to Ubuntu - not the opposite.

This is not an Ubuntu issue, but a PPA issue. Ubuntu at the moment syncs
blender unchanged from Debian. So, I'm reducing this to severity
wishlist as it doesn't affect an official archive. I'll leave it to
Jonas to mark wontfix if he feels it's appropriate as I don't actively
work on this. I'd suggest using the next release with a ~vcs suffix, so
if there's a 2.63, do a 2.63a~svn upload. Also, this is only an issue
for the release without a letter. AIUI, the version scheme has always
been to follow upstream except in the case where upgrades would break.
Since the +dfsg suffix is not needed anymore, the official packages no
longer have an issue. I'd suggest you adjust your scripts to handle the
upstream versioning appropriately.

 Great thanks.

Reinhard, did you wanted 0.8.1 in precise? Betafreeze is tomorrow.
Thanks for the notice, yes I did, and unfortunately, I'm travelling

I'm not an Ubuntu developer I'm afraid. At best I could have something
ready for someone to review and sponsor for an upload to Ubuntu.

We could always ask for a freeze exception. After all, this new
release brings a lot of security fixes.

Would anyone mind if I just used the new upstream version without
merging? Does precise need any of the other changes made recently?

mplayer2 is a very poor fork name used to confuse users.

it doesnt help that debian is using that name as a package:
http://packages.qa.debian.org/m/mplayer/news/20110817T173341Z.html

debian and uoti are setting themselves (and us) up for explaining to
users which version is better.
why each version is better.
which version they are using when reporting bugs.
why 'we dont have mencoder anymore?'
'why isnt gmplayer installed with mplayer2?'
etc

maybe i'll just go create the debian2 operating system or the google2
search engine. brilliant!

Ubuntu set aggressive default compile flags, whereas Debian set conservative
 ones.

I know that, I wanted to know if somebody had more detail.
OK, I found the problem. In Ubuntu, scons is for some reason inserting
-fvisibility=hidden to the gcc/g++ lines, thus crippling the CsoundAC
library. The scons in debian shows no such problem.

The ubuntu people here, how can I get Ubuntu to pick the latest
version from debian, and then rebuild csound using that?

There are 61 build-depends on scons in Ubuntu and we're past feature
freeze. Aside from that, are you sure it's scons and not the toolchain
that's diifferent?

Is anyone willing to be an uploader with me on this package?

I fail to see how it relates to Multimedia.

I was thinking since it has image manipulation that it might fall under
multimedia, is there another team better suited for this?

Thanks,

 Update to 1.1.6

I'd like to get this sync'd to Ubuntu in the next 24 hours.
Please don't, the 1.1.6 release is a development version which needs testing.

 Cheers,
Xubuntu wants this as the default music player and are happy with the
current version. I have been assured by people working with it that the
release is fairly stable. There are additional polish patches coming in
the next few weeks, but I wanted to at least get the feature complete
 version in before Feature Freeze.

Could you at least put this in experimental?

Would it be better to remove these files in the get-orig-source rule?
It's already modifying the tarball for DFSG compliance.

request to join

2010-08-15 Thread Micah Gersten
Hi! I'm one of the Mozilla maintainers in Ubuntu and also help maintain
the xulrunner rdepends of which 2 are part of this team (mediatomb and
vlc). I would like to join so that I can help with the packaging work
for these products so that both distros benefit from any updates that I do.

I have:
Created an alioth account
Subscribed to both lists
I'm familiar with the bts to some extent and would like to help where I
can.

I can't commit to a lot at this point and I see the vlc is pretty well
taken care of, but would like to get mediatomb updated.

Thank you,
Micah Gersten
