I'm wondering whether we perhaps should package ps3mediaserver instead. I
haven't looked deeply into it, but it seems mediatomb doesn't support
fastforward/back and ps3mediaserver does - that's a pretty relevant feature
imho :).

Any of you experienced with this?

(there was already some work on that but it seems that got abandoned due to
lack of upstream response...

Arnout, since you have an interest, would you be willing to maintain
this with me under the banner of pkg-multimedia? (AFAIK, the requirement
is that 2 members of the team agree to maintain it, are named as
Uploaders in debian/control, and the package relates to multimedia).
Unfortunately, I don't use the package, but have an interest in it as
far as there appear to be quite a few users in Ubuntu using it.

Afaics mediatomb is currently the only UPnP/DLNA server in Debian with
transcoding capabilities.

I think we should either try to keep mediatomb or package another similar
piece of software - I don't know which are any good though :).

I have an interest in this kind of software (as I recently got a TV with DLNA
capabilities ;) ), so I might be able to help out here and there, but I don't
have much experience with it yet.

I have an interest as far as there seem to be users in Ubuntu for the
package. I'm still catching up on various tasks, but I can try to take
this over (would still like to keep it under pkg-multimedia if that's
ok). The problem is that I don't personally use it.

I rarely have time for mediatomb development (I'm one of the upstream
developers), so I'm sorry but I have currently no time for the Debian
package.

I rarely use mediatomb now. If someone else wants to take over maintaining
it, it's fine by me.

I had only sponsored an upload as far as I recall. I had been using
Mediatomb occasionally, but not on a Debian system. So to make a long
story short: I don't care much for the Debian package. If it gets removed,
that is OK with me. If someone adopts it: Even better. I certainly don't
have the time to maintain it.

Debian's mediatomb package is in bad shape

2011-06-24 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Hi,

I've CC'ed both Sven and Leonard explicitly, because both do not seem to
be subscribed to pkg-multimedia. Sven, Leonard, are you (still?)
interested in participating in pkg-multimedia [2]?

I notice that the mediatomb package in debian is in a rather bad
shape. [1] currently lists 3 RC and 5 important bugs. Moreover, there
hasn't been a new upstream release for over a year.

I know that I did the last upload of the package, but since I don't
really use it, getting the package in shape is not really my
priority. For the team, I ask you what to do about it. Do we have
volunteers to get it in shape or shall we rather orphan/remove it from
Debian?
