I would recommend submitting a "wishlist" bug to the Debian Bug Tracker against the jack-keyboard package, with this information, and requesting a new version with your features. The reportbug tool will help with this, but there is more information here: https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting Will you be willing to maintain your fork long-term in case any new bugs arise that need fixing? jack-keyboard uses jack midi, so it's very likely that you have to use
a2jmidid at some time when using jack-keyboard, recommended.

It's an virtual midi keyboard, similar to Vkeybd but better and it uses JACK MIDI which is more accurate then ALSA MIDI (for software).
