Not able to get any info. on these packages after upgrading to sid

2011-04-15 Thread shirish शिरीष
Hi all,
This is going to be a long one. Please CC me as I'm not subscribed to
the list.

When upgrading to sid, these packages were removed, I tried to search
some of the archives of the mailing list as well as the debian package
repository but was not successful. Can somebody tell me if these
packages are gone forever or have the names or something have been
changed.

bombono-dvd bombono-dvd-data libavcore0 libfaac0 libmjpegtools-1.9
libmp3lame0 libx264-112 libxvidcore4 mjpegtools

I tried tools such as 'apt-cache search' and 'apt-show-versions' and
most of them failed. Some of the packages still have some info. which
aptitude shows for e.g.

$ aptitude show libfaac0
No current or candidate version found for libfaac0
Package: libfaac0
State: not installed
Version: 1.28-0.3
Priority: optional
Section: libs
Maintainer: Christian Marillat maril...@debian.org

Depends: libc6 (= 2.2.5)
Description: an AAC audio encoder - library files
FAAC currently supports MPEG-4 LTP, MAIN and LOW COMPLEXITY object types and
MAIN and LOW MPEG-2 object types. It also supports multichannel and gapless
 encoding.
Homepage: http://www.audiocoding.com/

while others seem to have truly gone

$ aptitude show bombono-dvd
E: Unable to locate package bombono-dvd

I do not know if there is a specific debian-multimedia repository
which I need to track of, is there if I'm on Sid ?

Looking forward for answers.

Hi all,
I was looking for an mp4 merge tool and came across this. I used the

For seeing whether it works I combined two files which are similar at
least on the technical parameters :-

Bug#689525: vlc loses audio if I play, pause and play

2012-10-03 Thread shirish शिरीष
Package: vlc
Version: 2.0.3-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
I get no audio if I play any media (video files) and do play, pause
and then play. I have tried playing the same media across different
players for e.g. dragon, totem etc. and this is the only one where I
get such a behavior. Can anyone tell what the issue might be or even
how I could troubleshoot it further so we could upstream the
bug-report.

Looking forward to help.

vlc after pausing and replaying doesn't play audio

2012-10-10 Thread shirish शिरीष
Hi all,
I filed a bug for the above issue #689525 . Could somebody take a look
at that and direct me as to what do I need to figure out in order to
see/understand why it's behaving like that. All the other media
players do NOT behave at all in the above manner. I like vlc for it's
UI and other things. If possible please help me in nailing down the
issue.

If it's already reported or is a known issue or reported somewhere
upstream a bug number of that would help in understanding the issue as
well and see what else I can dig out.

Looking forward to guidance.

I dunno, this is what I get when I look for packages which have
pulseaudio and alsa in their names.

You can check if pulseaudio is running:
 ps -C pulseaudio

Thank you for answering quickly back.

The above command does generate a PID, I do know it's a 'server' so
it's always running.

$ ps -C pulseaudio
  PID TTY TIME CMD

Can you try VLC 2.0.4 or
  upstreams master branch?

I have not yet tried VLC 2.0.4, dunno if vlc-plugin-pulse (I think
this plugin is/was required to interface with pulseaudio) is required
 or no longer required.

You need vlc-plugin-pulse if you want to use pulseaudio as sound output.

 $ sudo aptitude install vlc=2.0.4-1 vlc-nox=2.0.4-1 vlc-plugin-svg=2.0.4-1
 [...]
Those two packages are removed if I try to install the update from
 unstable/sid.

Just add vlc-plugin-pulse=2.0.4-1 to your aptitude command.

Can you run vlc with -vvv?

Yup, did, this is the result :-

 $ vlc -vvv
VLC media player 2.0.1 Twoflower (revision 2.0.1-0-gf432547)

Are you really using version 2.0.3-2, because VLC claims to be in
 version 2.0.1?

umm... this is where it is getting weird for me too.

I just purged vlc and it's other related packages from the system.

btw it seems ffmpeg is no longer a binary in the archive.

Lastly, can anybody tell me what is the difference between mplayer1
and mplayer2. The long description does not give any info. or
indication as to why there are two binaries for the same thing
although the version numbers are different.

The only uneducated guess I could make is mplayer2 would have some
differences in UI and perhaps not have feature-parity as compared to
mplayer1 . There may be some differences elsewhere. Could somebody
comment on this and perhaps give some clue in the long description
somewhere.

I also took the liberty of getting pulseaudio details in case if they
are helpful to figure this out. I have no idea if the bug is in vlc or
pulseaudio or the codecs in libavcodec.

Bug#735447: in vlc audio is sometimes there, sometimes not there

2014-03-26 Thread shirish शिरीष
Rémi Denis-Courmont r...@remlab.net says :-

PulseAudio keeps going into underflow. Do you hear any audio at all (with
silences) or do you hear nothing? It seems like the PulseAudio daemon is
acting up, but it could also be something wrong with the source file.

Dear Remi,
Thank you for following it up. This is not just with one source file
but with many. The best way for me to reproduce this is to load any
video media file in vlc, forward the media file sometime and then see
pulseaudio lose the audio.

This has been happening for months. I am on testing with all updates
and still have the issue.

P.S. :- For some reason the bts didn't tell me that somebody has
responded to the bug hence NOW subscribing to my own bug report. I
just got to my bug-report on the off-chance that there might be
something I might have left out.

Bug#757765: blender-data: adequate reports broken symlink of jquery-ui.js

2014-08-11 Thread shirish शिरीष
Package: blender-data
Version: 2.71+dfsg0-3
Severity: normal
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: broken-symlink adequate

Dear Maintainer,
Thank you for maintaining blender. I recently upgraded blender and
adequate gave me this error and warning.

blender-data: broken-symlink
/usr/share/blender/scripts/addons/netrender/js/jquery-ui.js -
../../../../../javascript/jquery/jquery-ui.js

So I went and checked the path and yes, the path seems to be broken.

:/usr/share/blender/scripts/addons$ cd jtab doesn't produce anything.

which means the whole path from javascript directory/folder forwards
is missing. There is no file or folder starting with the letter j in
that folder/directory.

Looking forward to the fix.

Bug#767120: vlc: screen goes blank while playing video, maybe screensaver kicks in

2014-10-28 Thread shirish शिरीष
Package: vlc
Version: 2.2.0~pre4-1+b1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
I am using mate window manager. Many a times when I'm viewing a video,
after sometime the window goes blank. I have to use the mouse and the
video comes back. I have no idea why it happens. As shared above, I
have a speculation that the screensaver might be kicking in but have
no idea if it's happening, why it's happening like that.

Looking forward for people to fix it or tell me what I need to do.

There is a similar bug in Launchpad. Can you check that you are using
the pulseaudio output plugin (Tools - Preferences - Audio - Output
 module: Pulseaudio audio output)?

Wow, that is where the bug was. The output module was still using ALSA
. When I tuned to pulseaudio then the bug was no longer present. Can
somebody close the bug. Thanx a lot everybody.

when it says there are two choices.

Looking forward for more info. Maybe I did something wrong.

that's not the question at all. I have no problems if one library is
being replaced by another library which has better or more features,
if it was there in the changelog somewhere about why the change is
there but there is nothing to suggest the same in the changelogs of
any of them of why it happens.

That changelog is for the whole lot of them. Either it should have
been part of the changelog so the user knows this is expected or
something. The other thing I dunno if this library needs more memory
than the regular library or something like that (extra functionality =
extra memory, I do understand not necessary all the time but still )
. I hope I am able to make sense.

Till l8er.

Bug#767120: it's mate desktop

2014-12-09 Thread shirish शिरीष
Hi Sebastian,
Thank you for taking the time out and trying to get the bottom of
this. i'm using mate desktop and don't think I'm using any custom
config here.

It seems I have to use the mate power manager sleep inhibit applet but
even using that does not get it right. It seems there is some issue
with mate power manager inhibit applet itself which they are not able
to work it out (as of yet).

Looking forward to see if you can help in this matter.

2015-02-18 Thread shirish शिरीष
Hi all,
I purged and installed the libavtools package. I do not see the
.conffile any longer.

$ pkg=libav-tools ; adequate $pkg ; dpkg-query -W -f='${Conffiles}\n'
$pkg | grep obsolete
$

$ dpkg -L libav-tools | grep avserver.conf
$

So it seems the conffile is no longer there.

2015-10-10 Thread shirish शिरीष
Package: vlc
Version: 2.2.1-4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
I try to play any video, the moment I go to full-screen it crops the
screen to the original 640x480 screen and I get 1/4th of the picture
information, it seems it tries to go full-screen but displays only
part of the information.

Sharing the plane0 error as an attachment. Have to use some other
media player mean-time.

Bug#801439: vlc: debugging and report advice tells to remove plugins rm ~/.cache/vlc/plugins-*.dat whereas the default cache is at /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/plugins.dat

2015-10-10 Thread shirish शिरीष
Package: vlc
Version: 2.2.1-4
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
The debugging and report advice talks to remove the plugin cache from
~/.cache/vlc/plugins-*.dat whereas all the installed plugin modules
are at /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/plugins.dat . Maybe the language could be
improved a bit so the user knows the .cache subdirectory folder would
have plugins which have been installed by her/im.

Bug#815692: are you waiting for auto-libcdio transition to be finished before sharing 0.16 version ?

2016-04-27 Thread shirish शिरीष
Dear Mateusz Łukasik,

Are you waiting for the auto-libcdio transition to complete
https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/auto-libcdio.html before
sharing 0.16 ?

The main good changes are perhaps a little down :-

Initial Android support
dxva2: support HEVC Main 10

https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/releases

That is from 0.16, I do see that 0.17 has also been released, we will
be happy with 0.16 as it's an even release so probably more stable.

While the initial android support would not hurt us (and would also
help the android-developer group indirectly in debian) the HEVC Main
10 support should lower CPU overhead a bit if you are seeing a 10-bit
HEVC movie right which is being used a lot more nowadays.

Bug#833713: mpv new upstream version 0.18.1 and ffmpeg version compilation with it.

2016-08-08 Thread shirish शिरीष
Package: mpv
Version: 0.18.0-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,
First of all a big thanx to the whole multimedia team for taking such
good care of us (the users) for so many years and making life simpler
for us.

Now, I read #831537 and while the bug seems to have been fixed in the
git repo. it is yet to flow down to us (i.e. the users). But more than
that, a new upstream version has been launched by mpv.io with the
following statement -

"Note: Running mpv with different versions of the FFmpeg/Libav
libraries than it was compiled with is no longer supported. Even
supposedly ABI-compatible versions have been a source of trouble, and
it creates far too much complexity with little to no benefit, coupled
with absurd and unusable FFmpeg API artifacts.

Instead, mpv will exit with an error when such a situation is
detected. This simply means that mpv needs to be rebuilt whenever
FFmpeg libraries change."

https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/releases

What this probably means in long-term that the multimedia team would
have to either of these three things -

a. Abandon mpv
b. Maintain mpv independantly and use ffmpeg versions that we are
comfortable with, OR lastly
c. Move to a scenario where both ffmpeg and mpv are in sync with each other.

The 3rd may not be possible as it would probably would mean more
transition cycles and to deal with the fall-outs of rebuilding
failures along with other things. The first option would be easiest
but like many people, I have started using mpv more than any other
media player so I would be sad to see it go, if that happens.

The second option seems to be where we are now and at least for the
short-term this is where we probably would be for sometime.

People could use this bug as an excuse as what they see the roadmap in
the next 6-8 months to a year in respect of mpv and the ffmpeg
libraries.

Bug#833722: ffmpeg: can hear music but no sound/dialogs from movie

2016-08-08 Thread shirish शिरीष
Package: ffmpeg
Version: 7:3.1.1-4
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
Last few days, I have been able to hear the audio/songs/singing
background but no dialogs.

I see the following on the CLI -

[ffmpeg/audio] ac3: Channel layout '5.1(side)' with 6 channels does
not match specified number of channels 2: ignoring specified channel
layout
AO: [pulse] 48000Hz stereo 2ch float
VO: [opengl] 720x304 yuv420p
AV: 00:00:00 / 01:30:22 (0%) A-V: 0.000
[ffmpeg/audio] ac3: exponent 26 is out-of-range
[ffmpeg/audio] ac3: error decoding the audio block
AV: 00:01:48 / 01:30:22 (1%) A-V: 0.000

Does this mean the only fix for such movies is a 5.1 output or there
could be some other fix ?

Bug#845271: libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in src/ifo_read.c:1675

2016-11-21 Thread shirish शिरीष
Source: libdvdread
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
I was trying to play a movie. I have filed it under libdvdread as I'm
unsure whether it's libdvdnav or libdvdread which is at fault.

The media is in conventional VIDEO_TS directory with the following
directory structure -

[$] ls

VIDEO_TS.BUP VIDEO_TS.IFO VIDEO_TS.VOB VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_01_2.VOB VTS_01_3.VOB

Whenever I run the above, I get the following statements dumped on the screen -

AV: 00:02:39 / 01:26:44 (3%) A-V: 0.000
*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in src/nav_read.c:264 ***
*** for dsi->dsi_gi.zero1 == 0 ***

It goes on for sometime after which it starts reliably -

AV: 00:02:42 / 01:26:44 (3%) A-V: -0.000
*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in src/nav_read.c:264 ***
*** for dsi->dsi_gi.zero1 == 0 ***

AV: 00:02:42 / 01:26:44 (3%) A-V: -0.000

Can the above be fixed ?

thank you for uploading simplescreenrecorder

2016-11-17 Thread shirish शिरीष
Dear all,

Thank you for re-uploading simplescreenrecorder. Especially would like
to thank pere for the new upload. Was able to use and upload a video
about a bug in the new firefox

See https://bugs.debian.org/844694 OR/and
https://jumpshare.com/v/CMeKzSwl83vyRrEvzSEe

I just had to toggle a few switches and a 200 MB behemoth media file
(used x265) with a new recording and encoding became a 7 MB media
file.

I wish I could figure out how to make my profile (in
simplescreenrecorder) public would be nice to take inputs from people.

2016-12-23 Thread shirish शिरीष
Dear Sebastian,

Sorry for not replying earlier. Seems both your answers didn't reach
me. I was looking at the pkg-multimedia mailing list and found your
answers.

I am subscribing to the bug so this doesn't happen.

Replying to your queries -

a. So I guess you are not running this from a terminal running in X?

a. I AM running this from a terminal running in X.

b. Or you do not have i965-va-driver installed, which you should get
automatically
if you do not have recommends disabled.

b. Wrong again. I do have i965-va-driver installed.

$ aptitude search i965-va-driver
i i965-va-driver
- VAAPI driver for Intel G45 & HD Graphics family

Please let me know if you need any more details.

I have been seeing this in videos I have been playing (and some refuse
to play at all which used to play earlier) -

error,driver_name=(null)
[vaapi] vaInitialize(): unknown libva error
[vo/x11] Warning: this legacy VO has bad performance. Consider fixing
your graphics drivers, or not forcing the x11 VO.

And this happens on different systems, one which needs and has the
i965-va-driver and the other one which is a much more dated system.

Dunno if this gives you any more clues or not. I am using mpv as my
video player.

Warning - Longish mail (a bit)

Have provided Xorg.0.log from /var/log/X.org.0.log

While I'm able to figure out and troubleshoot some parts and able to
play the videos without the warnings. What had happened was -

a. For some reason nvidia-* packages had occupied center-stage along
with Intel. It took me sometime to realize that maybe because some
laptops which are available today are 'hybrid' laptops which have both
intel and nvidia graphics hence nvidia which usually had a
breaks/replaces against intel was not there.

How it came to be, I'm clueless still.

b. I removed all instances of any nvidia package except for
nvidia-installer-cleanup which depends on glx-diversions.

c. Then rebooted the system and found it was flashing the monitor.

d. Then rebooted into single user mode, found out mesa-vdpau-drivers
was not installed, As I was in single-user-mode/recovery-mode had to
take a usb disk, download mesa-vdpau-drivers, copied it to this
machine and installed it via dpkg.

e. Rebooted again and this time got the login page, saw couple of
videos, the complain was no longer in the videos.

So while on Xorg.0.log shouldn't have anything untoward now -

I did see something Very strange on the dmesg front

/home/shirish $ dmesg
dmesg: read kernel buffer failed: Operation not permitted

I was forced to become root and then was able to share dmesg.txt
