There have been a lot of changes to xfwm between beta1 and beta2, but it should have been optimizations. Maybe you should try to open a bug on Xfce Bugzilla (http://bugzilla.xfce.org) If you don't know how to do this, just open a bug on debian bts against xfwm4 and we'll forward it. I’ll do that, thanks. (don't remember to describe the more precisely possible as you can the bug because slower may be too just for Olivier) This won’t be easy because that is the main problem. But I’ll try. Thanks and regards, Mathias -- Yves-Alexis ___ Pkg-xfce-devel mailing list Pkg-xfce-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-xfce-devel
Bug#380639: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#380639: xfwm4: Huge performance leak with the new beta 2
severity #380639 normal forwarded #380639 http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2099 thanks On Mon, 2006-07-31 at 15:57 +0200, Mathias Brodala wrote: Package: xfwm4 Version: 4.3.90.2-1 Severity: important I've downgraded the severity to normal, because compositing not working doesn't prevent you to use xfwm. With beta 1 of Xfce I switched from XAA to EXA as rendering method and gained a large performance boost. My windows are set to become semi-transparent on move and with EXA this is very fast even on large windows with a lot of content. But since upgrading to the beta 2 the performance boost is lost again. It is even slower than using XAA. If I move a window now, Xorg catches all cpu cycles and a almost 100% usage. The window itself is moved far behind my actual cursor movement. I am sorry that I am not able to give more information, so please ask for anything you need. Can you be more precise on the configuration you have (hardware and software) ? Can you give xorg.conf relevant informations, /var/log/Xorg.0.log. I've opened a bug on Xfce bugzilla which you should follow http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2099 because it'll be there where upstream will communicate. Btw, Olivier, core xfwm developper, is in holidays, so I guess the bug won't be treated until a week or so. I can't really reproduce the bug because I don't use compositing on this box (too slow, even with beta1). Are you sure that xorg or something wasn't upgraded when you upgraded to beta2 too ?
