I'm experiencing a very similar problem.
Changing energy saving values or unchecking them are being correctly committed
("xset q" shows the changed values), although if I exit and enter again the
Power Management settings, the unchecked checkmarks are gone. Logging in again
does load the previous settings.

Restarting does not help. When I open Powerdevil settings, they always open on
the AC Settings tab.
