Joe,

You might consider seeing what The Printer Place in Portland has as
reconditioned printers. A color laser printer (or a b laser) are much
lower in operational costs than are inkjet printers.

I have a linux computer running mint and Firefox. The cups drivers are not
sufficient to power a connection with HP. I tried to update my but was unable
to fix the computer so that it would communicate with hp. I kept trying to
documents from file and it did not work until mint/mozilla figured I had a
problem. Then after a few days of adding updates to my computer, it finally
recognized that I had a hp printer and started allowing me to send printing to
my hp printer again (and even printed stuff sent to it).

Attempting to update my hp printer drivers to my computer was unsuccessful. I
previously had a brother printer but it stopped working after an update to
linux. I am considering getting rid of the hp printer b/c their ink is a cash
cow at my expense. I am interested in Canon (I used to have a Canon printer as
a Windows user {and it worked well}) or an Epson printer. Both have ink tank
systems that undercut the monopolization that hp exerts on printer inks. Before
purchasing a cheap printer, I will check on the compatibility that the printer
has with ubuntu.

Thanks, turned out it was my VPN. I didn't think that would conflict with
local network traffic, but it was.

How about other computers? Can they see the printer?

[PLUG] Problem with hplip/hp device manager not seeing printer on same unmanaged switch

2021-11-03 Thread c
I have a printer connected to the same unmanaged switch as one of my ubuntu
boxes, but I cannot get the device manager to see the printer, even if I
manually add the ip address, both are getting 192.168.0.x addresses.

I've tried changing the connection speed and making sure the printer is set
to ipv4. This printer has always been reachable when I connect it and a
machine directly to the router. I'm really not sure what to test or try
next. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
