Re: Linux Friendly Color Printer

moin moin,

HP does really seem to work well with Linux. However in our super dry
climate I'd almost recommend a laser printer instead of an inkjet. They are

HP plays nice with Linux, but plays printer firmware games and locks you
out of using your printer. I had bought multiple HP inkjets over the
years, but got tired of their toner games.

I also got tired of dry toner.

more expensive but the toner seems to last a long time when it's really
dry. The same cannot be said of inkjets

After asking on list I ended up getting a brother laser printer / scanner. For
printing it worked fine in Ubuntu. For debian, I had to look something up,
but I don't remember details.

For the scanner, it's a lost cause without downloading their proprietary
binary package. I just pulled my HP out of the closet to scan until
gravity introduced the glass bed to momentum. I now have a bootable USB
drive and a spare laptop with no network connection for when I need to
scan.

Note, the recommendations on the list were for brother printers, not for
brother scanners, so the list did well for me.

According to the scanner projects many other scanners work with common
tools.

ciao,

Alright, everyone, the day has come...

I want a new color printer. And as you might expect: I want it to also
be friendly for Linux users.

Suggestions?

Re: Cannot send email Postfix / Dovecot

2021-07-06 Thread Keith Smith via PLUG-discuss

Thanks Michael!!

I need to make my box's FQDN the same as my SSL and mail server (in the
client). I have them out of sync... this is all new to me so as I
configured everything I did not know what to expect. I'm hoping that is
the case.

Thanks!! I'll let you know.

Being a network dude, I always say start at the network ports. Can
you ping and telnet to the ports you expect to, and verify ports are
open you expect? If you can connect to ports, it's verifiable not the
network or firewall.

Rest is auth to the application service or daemon (smtp/pop/imap) if
you can make a socket connection to tcp/25, 110, 143, etc. If you
open basic imap/pop/smtp without encryption, you can interact and test
with telnet alone to send/receive. Start there, once those work, move
up to encrypted sockets to build on once unencrypted works.

Hi,

I was able to get my home server to work for the most part. I think
I
need to make a few more adjustments.

I have Postfix and Dovecot configured and I can send email but not
receive. Nothing in the mail logs.

I am trying to connect using Thunderbird.

Config:

IMAP port 993 / ssl/TLS / Normal Password / username :
ke...@keiththewebguy.com and password that is in
/etc/dovecot/dovecot-users

SMTP port 25 / STARTTLS / Normal Password / username :
ke...@keiththewebguy.com and password that is in
/etc/dovecot/dovecot-users

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks!!
