Yep, I'm in the habit of setting the jumpers, as a lot of my hardware is
old. :-)
I suspect you're right about the bus.

HackFest Series: BackTrack

2008-10-15 Thread Lisa Kachold

Most of you should have been able to successfully boot the Obnosis BackTrack

other computers by now?

there are more than one set of tools available in security distros that are
easy to use and provide information.

Infiltrating my brothers Auto repair shop

2008-10-15 Thread James Finstrom
Greetings,

So my brother owns a local auto repair business and is pretty well
computerized. There are some applications that require windows to run and
wine doesn't cut it. What I would like to do is to take his current needs
and exploit those so I can widdle away his dependencies and bring him to
Linux. Currently he needs a shop management program and I thought this would
be perfect. I have googled but the spammers own and I have had no luck. Does
anyone know of a Linux based Automotive shop management application I can
run under Linux?

Anybody experienced Kurumin NG (Kubuntu variant)?

2008-10-15 Thread Josef Lowder
From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Kurumin NG - New Distribution Announcement

As the new release cycle kicks off with new versions of popular
software, we are happy to welcome Kurumin NG to the operating system
lineup. http://on-disk.com/product_info.php/products_id/582

Kurumin NG 8.06 is a Brazilian created Linux desktop distribution
based on Kubuntu 8.04, but enhanced with features developed earlier by
the Kurumin and Kalango projects. The boot menu offers both English
and Portuguese.

On-Disk.com took Kurumin NG for a test drive and found it to be a very
crisp and clean. In our opinion it has a nicer look and feel than
Kubuntu. In addition, the 8.06 version contains many Kubuntu "Hardy
Heron" updates, so if you are waiting for the new Kubuntu release at
the end of the month, Kurumin NG may be worth trying.

I'd have to say that I actually like this ad campaign. It's positive
and promotes users instead of some pseudo feature. It is nice to see
them being constructive instead of tearing down the competition.

I'd actually go as far to say that this is exactly the type of campaign
that Linux needs. Users of Linux have been stereotyped to be geeks, or
very technical, and most feel that you need a CS degree to use Linux.
Those are wrong, we all know that, but it's hard to get that message
out. Perhaps someday I'll have a few hundred million for an ad
campaign :)
