[PLUG] Events: CMDA exhibition

2006-01-03 Thread sudhanwa Jogalekar
Hi,

We have an event coming up.

Every year, CMDA ( Computers and media dealers association, Pune ::
http://cmdapune.com) have their annual exhibition. For the last 4
years, they are helping us to promote FOSS by giving us a stall in the
exhibition. After the last years exhibition, they have now given Life
Membership of their organisation to PLUG.

They are now giving us a stall in the forthcoming exhibition scheduled
on 19th,20th,21st,22nd JAN 2006 at Sakhar Sankul, Behind College of
Agriculture, Pune. This year, we have already received confirmation
for the stall and we will participate in the event.

Apart from managing our stall, we have to handle another social
activity handled by CMDA which is training Internet and email to
senior citizens. CMDA as part of their social responsibilities and a
service to the community, give Internet / email usage traing to senior
citizens. They have their own stall for doing the same and we will
provide volunteers for them.

This is yet another opportunity for us to reach common people and
educate/inform them about FOSS. The number of people visiting the
exhibition is HUGE (around 4 Lakhs) and if we can take FOSS even to a
small percentage of people visiting, that will be some achievement.

So, as usual, we need volunteers for this event. Volunteering is
required for giving your PCs in the stall, being there in the stall,
doing other activities like booking CDS, informing people about FOSS
and PLUG, CD writing, VOLUNTEERING FOR THE SENIOR CITIZENS STALL etc.

Lets be ready and participate!! Please send in your responses for
volunteering!!!

Hello all,
I have a peculiar problem.
I have FC4 installed.
I have installed kernel-2.6.9-1.667 from FC3.
I use this as default kernel.
I get speed of KDE3.4 and all my modules work fine.
I am unable to install nvidia graphics driver.
Nvidia installer fails cannot find modversions.h,
it is very much there.
--extract-only followed by make install has new
problem.
It complains that the kernel was compiled using
older compiler, which it was.
glxgears gives 120-150fps with nv module.
Same on my Mandriva2006 gives 1800fps.
Only solution I guess is to separate work and play.
Work FC4, play Mandriva2006.

Re: [PLUG] Playing AVI automatically on startup

2006-01-03 Thread Nikhil Karkare
Hi guys,
Thanks for all your help - I got yum to work by adding many rpm
repositories to its cache. So Xine works now.
As for starting the AVI when the computer boots up, I got gdm to
login without a username and password. Then I used
gnome-session-properties to add xine -f AVSEQ01.dat to the startup
items and init 6ed. Worked like a charm.
EMovix is good - but with this setup I can also use the machine remotely.

I guess everyone here reads slashdot, which is where I saw another
cool LiveCD for multimedia:

Thanks!

 Dear pluggies,

Does anyone know if the free usage from 2 am to 8 am has been discontinued?
I can't find any information on their website. I've been using this script

 /usr/bin/perl dataone.pl

to determine how much free and how much paid usage I am accumulating per
month and it was giving a listing of both and the total combined. Now all
that is listed is the total usage. When I use their webpage (using
internet explorer in wine) it also only lists totals. Gustav

as i see it the download is still free for plans above home 500 so if
u r s is plan250 i guess it has been discontinued

also if possible can u provide me the link so that i can download this
file dataone.pl

thank you
