Yup there are tools but they are specific to database. You have to
tell us specifically which database you want to migrate from and which
database you want to migrate to.

Re: [PLUG] Need Info

2008-03-14 Thread Abhijit Paithankar
Never mind the placement cell and it's rules. It does not matter.
Don't let it get you down.

The projects you do and things you learn will get you the job.

Just keep yourself upto date with the latest in Linux, dive deep into
the code, understand how it works and more importantly do some work to
prove that you really understand it. It does not matter what project
you contribute to or if you start your own project. Just the
experience of working in the open source community will teach you a
LOT of things.

Subscribe to mailing lists like LKML, Beowulf, etc, read stuff, read
LWN, kernelnewbies, etc, hang out on the IRC channels, interact with
people and help others learn from you as you learn from others.

That exposure will make your resume stand out of the crowd when you
apply to any company.
Plus, you are in Pune. The ideal place for a Linux hacker to be (other
than Bangalore, I guess). There is no dearth of Linux jobs.

I am telling you out of my experience. I did my BE in Electronics from
BVP (before it became deemed) and was not allowed to sit for the
placements. Today, I'm doing pretty well and earn a living hacking the
Linux kernel and am very happy with the work.

So, stay positive. Keep learning. The job will come to you.

[PLUG] Linux Creative Group - Meeting

2008-03-14 Thread Subhransu Behera

Hi All,

/There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there
are others who with the help of their art and their

intelligence, transform a yellow spot into the sun./ - *Pablo Picasso
*

We all are gifted with the ability to think of something new ... to
think of things that are yet unknown to others. But
many a times our idea is limited to just an imagination, often we don't
give them a second thought, and several times

we don't know how to start executing them!

Linux Creative Group (LCG), is an effort to gather such ideas, tie a
bond between the enthusiastic people, and let the

ideas take proper shapes.

If you are someone who believes in your ideas, who's passionate about
doing something new, and who believes there's
something in You. Then you may like to team up with us and attend the
1st meeting of LCG tomorrow:-

Venue: Red Hat Software Services (India) Pvt. Ltd.
Marisoft-3, Marigold Premises,
East Wing, 6th Floor, Kalyani Nagar,
Pune, India, 411014

Land Mark: Near Gold Adlabs Multiplex
Date: 15th March 2008, Saturday
Time: 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Read more about LCG here: http://www.linuxcreativegroup.com/

Looking forward to see many of you in the meeting.

your code will be generating sql - which takes you one step further
away from the data and increase the likelyhood of bugs. Better to
write the sql itself.
