Re: [PLUG] sendmail

2011-11-09 Thread M.K.Pai
Hi,

Would you explain why you picked sendmail?

And why not ? Why the pejorative attitude towards sendmail ?

Sendmail is actually easy to understand for a lot of applications.

I'll illustrate with example applications on which I have actually
made money when I was younger. These applications were easier to do
with sendmail, and I don't think things have changed much since.

a. A company wishes to send email via multiple dial-up connections, of
which only one is active at a time. To save on telephone expenses, the
dial-out is done once an hour. So the outgoing mail has to be frozen
into two separate queues only one of which is to be flushed at a time.

b. A company wishes to monitor outgoing mail. So the queue has to be
frozen and flushed on an approval basis. And a web interface has to be
provided to show the queue contents.

No offence meant, of course :)

Regards,

 Hi ,

Some of the students from our college are interested in working on sendmail
as a part of their BE project. Any suggestions on what are the challenges
related to send mail are welcome.

Could you tell us more about the projects ?

If the students are looking at writing an SMTP transport, perhaps they
could start by reading and implementing RFCs 821 and 822. The
implementation could be in any language they are comfortable with.

On the other hand if they want to use an SMTP transport as part of
something else, then any MTA supplied with the standard distributions
will be adequate.

But its difficult to be more specific unless we know more about what
your students want to do.

[PLUG] Fedora 16: Stuck after upgrade

2011-11-09 Thread Mayuresh
Upgraded to F16 from F15 using upgrade option.

On booting it drops to a shell prompt after some message saying it did not
find the device /dev/disk/by-uuid/uuid

If I do blkid, actually the device indicated by uuid above exists. Not
sure why above error message.

Tried doing a few obvious checks in /etc/grub2/grub.cfg and /etc/fstab.
uuids in both these files look alright to me.

Anyone - any quick help?

Mayuresh.

Refreshed the installation (ran upgrade once again). Nothing got installed
as expected and just boot loader config was redone. It's solved now.

First impression of grub2 is BAD!..

Earlier I could boot my external drive on any m/c. Now it boots only on
the machine where installation was carried out - I mean despite use of
UUIDs...
