[PLUG] Ultrabook w/ good linux support : Need suggestions
Hi, I'm considering HP Envy4 , Acer Aspire S, and Dell Inspiron 14z ultrabook and Lenovu U310 Most of them are around 50K, so cost isn't differentiating factor. Since most are built on intel ultrabook platform, specs too seem similar (Some have 24GB SSD, other 32GB - most don't have optical drive. All have 500GB HDD, 1366 x 768 resolution etc.) So now the decision is really based on : - Linux support - Local Customer Service - Weight (less the better) If any of you are using any running linux of any ultrabook , please provide your comments/suggestions/pros and cons. Thanks -Mandar ___ Pune GNU/Linux Users Group Mailing List

your comments/suggestions/pros and cons. If any of you are using any running linux of any ultrabook , please provide i am running lenovo ideapadS300 for last two weeks , i am happy with the machine , everything worked out of the box on Ubuntu 12.10 , i asked the vendor to add extra 2GB Ram instead of the default 2 GB. compared to other machines i found this one good eycandy wise , weighed less and decent battery backup. Last i had a HP Dv5 i was not happy with the service etc. also i had heating problems with the AMD chipset. hth -Satya fossevents.in ___ Pune GNU/Linux Users Group Mailing List

I'm currently using Lenovo Thinkpad R400 myself. It is my understanding that Lenovo generally has good linux support. But S300 isn't listed on Lenovo India website, Is it available in India (Pune) where ? What is the cost (after additional 2GB) ? Thanks, -Mandar ___ Pune GNU/Linux Users Group Mailing List

[PLUG] [ Kernel Build ] 2.6.32, 3.2.0
For those who are interested in writing drivers for the linux kernel (for whatsoever reason), I am planning a session where everyone can hopefully carry their own laptops and build together. The agenda is to build kernel 2.6.32 (from the 2.6 series) kernel 3.2.0 (from the 3.2 series) The objectives for the audience are to - Get interested in kernel hacking as building the kernel is quite simple. - Build multiple configurations from the same source simultaneously [usually one debug and one release build if not more.] - build only parts of the kernel (e.g. sound/graphics/video alone) - use alternate build scripts/environments to make it simpler to track Once this gets started up, we can move on and understand 1. The GNU/Linux/Kernel architecture [moving from 2.4 to 3.x] - motivations (some of which have been implicit) 2. Understand the GNU/Linux/Kernel boot-up sequence in terms of code executed all the way until init takes over 3. Understand the GNU/Linux/Kernel scheduler as it is today* I would prefer everyone hacking together - the motivation is to get everyone started to play with the linux kernel if they have the time and the enthusiasm. If someone wants to fix bugs (yes there are plenty), then we could look at the timelines. Either way, I have been working on the kernel for quite a while, and am no expert; so everyone joining in would make the audience right. Cheerio! Beta ___ Pune GNU/Linux Users Group Mailing List
