[PLUG] KMail - Sending Failed

2012-12-08 Thread vikas
Hi,

I am using SUSE Linux, 11.4 (for quite some time). I use KMail as my
email programme (Since even longer time). I have Email Ids configured
techqual.com - hosted on net4india servers and gmail.com. Since yesterday
afternoon the outgoing mail on both smtp servers has stopped. The error
message, for example, for net4india reads Sending failed:
smtpauth.net4india.com: Host unreachable The message will stay in the
'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address)
or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder. For gmail,
smtpauth.net4india.com is replaced by smtp.gmail.com. I had reported this
problem to Net4India. Their response is that SMTP is working fine at
their end.

I use BSNL broadband (Again, since long).

I have not changed any settings anywhere in the system. I have not
installed any new programmes, nor any system upgrade in last couple of
months.

I am able to ping to smtpauth.net4india.com and smtp.gmail.com.

I tried re-installing Kmail, but the problem persists.

Any suggestions on what I can do to solve this issue?

Thanks and regards
Vikas Garud

[PLUG] Richard Stallman on Ubuntu's online search feature

2012-12-08 Thread Mayuresh

Concerns are valid. At least the user should be made aware of it.

On similar lines, I am worried more about my Android phone on security
front. I, as yet, refrain from entering any passwords of much relevance to
me on android - even if they are not cached on the phone.

It is unclear, why throughout the day my phone's data upload-download
arrows (icons indicating internet usage) keep blinking...

I'll need to make all traffic go through a proxy and check what's up.

I don't as yet have the same confidence that I have developed over years
in open source software with downloaded apps on android.

[PLUG] [Event Report] OpenStack, December 1, 2012, Symbiosis (SICSR), Pune, India

2012-12-08 Thread Shakthi Kannan
Hi,

A workshop on OpenStack [1] was conducted on Saturday, December 1,
2012 at the Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies and Research
(SICSR) [2], Pune, India. Both theory and lab sessions were organized
for the students. I started the proceedings using Perry Myers's
presentation on Introduction and Overview of OpenStack for IaaS
(Infrastructure as a Service) Clouds for the Essex release. The
various building blocks of OpenStack with their functionality was
explained. An overall big picture of the architecture was presented to
them with illustrations.

The OpenStack Lab Guide [3] was then given to the participants to
setup their own OpenStack private cloud. Some of them had brought
their own laptops, while others used the Fedora machines in the labs.
We started by setting up the Keystone service, and adding users for
authentication. The Glance service was then installed, and configured.
A Fedora 17 and cirros image [4] were then imported into Glance. The
Nova service was then setup, and a SSH keypair was created for
testing.

The Horizon dashboard user interface was used to start a virtual
machine instance. Using ssh and the created keypair, we were able to
login to the virtual machine and use it. curl was used to test the
different REST API on the running stack. I also showed them simple
Python examples to demonstrate the OpenStack APIs. As a final
presentation for the day, I gave an introduction on libvirtd, and KVM.

Thanks to Manoj Aswani for working with me in organizing this
workshop. Thanks also to Perry Myers and Mark McLoughlin for
permission to use their presentation.

Few pictures taken during the workshop are available [5].

Regards,

SK

On some of the more recent releases of Android you can check which of
the applications are sync-ing data in the background. And, configure
them as well.
