I'm surprised by the number of connectivity-related issues people are
posting about. The only thing that has changed in SDT is parsing logic,
not networking. Things are failing before the plugin even has a chance
to parse. It seems to me like weather.com's new site isn't very stable
which is throwing off the plugin.

I haven't been seeing these issues on my side, but it does seem like
 people overseas are more impacted.

No, the * stays there for a very long time and does go from time to
time. I've seen the ? in the past when I've had broadband errors and I'm
not seeing that this time.

I've increased the refresh time from 5 to 10 minutes and I think it's
updating more successfully now. I tend to agree, I think they've
introduced some form of anti abuse system on the site.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer plugin appears to have stopped working for me....

2010-01-22 Thread MattC

Hi Triode bpa,

Have you tried setting the prefer wma option in the settings web page
 for the plugin?

okay, with that option enabled I can listen again... but it'd be
nice to have the higher quality if possible - I am UK based, with a UK
ISP

The error says the response received from the server was not what was
 expected.

can I type in an RTMP command after a telnet, in the same way as I can
do a GET / HTTP/1.0 type command after telnet-ing to a web server?

I've tried something like DESCRIBE rtmp://streamurl RTMP/1.0 and I get
nothing back. I seem to get nothing back at all, the server just
appears to close the connection after I enter any command, with no error
reported.

What is the host OS ?

debian linux. no iptables rules. there's a squid proxy running on
there for http, but I can't see that should [a|e]ffect this?

FWIW I've seen this happen with various different hosts in the rtmp://
url.

have we any idea what geo-IP database the bbc use - is the behaviour
I'm seeing the same as would be for a non UK connection attempt? or do
those connections actually fail at the TCP connect stage?

thanks for your help
Matt

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer plugin appears to have stopped working for me....

2010-01-22 Thread bpa

RTMP is not RTSP - DESCRIBE is part of RTSP which was part of the
protocol used with RealAudio. Triode knows the RTMP protocol as he
implemented it.

There are small differences in stream settings (e.g. speed) between a
user inside the UK and outside the UK but BBCiPlayer has been tested in
both regions (Triode in the UK, bpa outside the UK) so geo-ip stuff
shouldn't matter.

RTMP opens other ports to start a stream - have you tested with squid
turned off ?
You used to make a mod to SBS to support a proxy - is the mod still
there ?

You must test this - it verifies that you have set up Stereo Mix

for the plugin to play.

Regarding 7.3, has anyone tried running it on 7.4 (you'll have to

not has anyone tried copy/pasting the 7.4 gotWeather Perl sub from
plugin.pm to 5.8.7? That should work.
I'm sorry to say, but supporting an additional build is not appealing.
I am not a software company with unlimited time and resources. To have
a full fledged build I'd also have to go backport all of the other fixes
that have occurred past 5.8.7 or I'm certain there'd be emails and forum
 posts to that regard.
I do not have a 7.3 installation to test things with, if someone is
willing to test a build out for me we can try that route. Basically
I'll do the copy/pasting suggested above and you'll need to manually
install the copy and let me know how it goes. If it looks good I can

Greg, thanks for replying. As far as 7.4 goes, it's more of an
ain't-broke-don't-fix-it thing on my part, sticking to 7.3.3 mainly
because I've seen lots of people moaning after they moved.

I'm not technical at all, but I'd be happy to test a build if you'd be
kind enough to make one.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] I've made an OSX installer for Inguz...

I would recommend removing the existing SS install and starting with a
fresh one, only because I've changed where I install the plugin to so if
you just run the installer on a system with Inguz already installed you
might get it appearing twice.

Rather than copying the plugin to the plugins folder inside the SS
package, I install it to /Library/Application Support/Plugins which
seems cleaner to me and decouples the plugin from SS updates.

I'd like to get InguzDSP out of the SS package too (then it would
survive SS updates) but I'm not sure if that's possible. I'll need to do
some more playing with that.

I moved SBS to my laptop (Vista, dual core) and it seems to work
slightly better. One question. Every time I start SS I have to go to

a way to make it default to this?

The sync seems similar - works on radio, but on FLACs the first track
is fine, and then SS lags by 1/2 a second or so.

When you enter the IP address - it is normally remembered in the Java

2010-01-22 Thread peterw

akennedy;509352 Wrote:

OK, good to hear. I hope to find time to add this to KidsPlay over the
weekend.

The end goal for me is to use a remote to control XBMC (XBox Media
Center) So i'll just have to find a way to hook into the XOrg input
 controls.

These look promising:
* sending X11 keystrokes:
http://www.doctort.org/adam/nerd-notes/x11-fake-keypress-event.html
* sending LIRC IR/button codes: http://japiblog.dddgames.com/?p=12

I like the LIRC idea a lot, especially since I have an SB3 sitting
right next to a StreamZap USB IR receiver that I use as a LIRC receiver
for MythTV (and mplayer). Along those lines, the following is probably a
better solution than X11 since XBMC is designed to be used with LIRC:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/slim-plugins/files/LIRC/LIRC%20V1.0/ --
except, considering that plugin's age (over 4 years old!), it almost
certainly needs significant work to run in SC 7.3 / SBS 7.4.

Ooh, actually there might be a significant problem with KidsPlay here.
KidsPlay's main goal was to make an IR remote usable by my young child.
One of its deliberate features (with IR codes, not Boom/Receiver
physical buttons) is to ignore repeated button presses to some extent,
to make the IR remote less frustrating. You probably want something more
like the typical LIRC usage. E.G. if you hold the Volume Down button,
you probably want XBMC to see Volume Down button events over and over. I
don't remember how I coded that ignoring logic. It might be that I can
easily expose that as a configurable variable and you could just tweak
the config so it's responsive enough.

Also along those lines, you'd probably get better responsiveness from
something like a dedicated LIRC plugin that uses 100% Perl logic to send
UDP messages to a LIRC daemon than having something like KidsPlay spawn
a full process for each button press.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] I've made an OSX installer for Inguz...

2010-01-22 Thread esbrewer

Just tried the install (sorry - too lazy to do complete removal of SBS
first - just took out any inguz files I could find) with the most recent
nightly and OS 10.6. Everything went OK up until the point where you
have to change the file types in the SBS web interface. The Inguz
options aren't there. This seems to be a pretty consistent problem with
my system since moving to 10.5 and then 10.6. The only thing that seems
to solve it for me is going into the relevant folders and manually
changing the permissions thru the get into box.

When I look in the menus on my SB3 I can see all the Inguz settings and
controls, along with my current set of impulses. So clearly some
required folders can be accessed while others cannot. Has the location
of the Inguz DSP files changed as well with the move to the new plugin
folder?

I've debated going back to Windows server for SBS just because the
whole update process seems to be so much simpler there. I end up going
without Inguz alot because the thought of running thru all this crap
multiple times is so freaking annoying. But I guess that's why you
created the installer in the first place.

I'll try a clean install (as was suggested) sometime soon and post the
results. Thanks again.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: HydraPlayer plugin: a SliMP3 emulator written in perl

2010-01-22 Thread torp

I've recently created a web page for the plugin I wrote called
HydraPlayer. The site can be found here:

http://www.noid.net/hydraplayer/hydraplayer.html

Here's a brief description of what it does:

HydraPlayer is a SliMP3 emulator written in perl. The emulator can
function on its own (stand alone mode), but it's mostly useful when run
as a plugin within the SlimServer. When running in plugin mode, it can
spawn multiple emulator sessions, one per detected Squeezebox
controller. The players are synchronized with the controllers such that
the Squeezebox controller is used for media selection, volume control,
etc. and the player sessions are used to actually drive the speakers.

Cool, can I ask why you are emulating SliMP3 instead of SB2? SliMP3
requires a lot more overhead on the server and is more fragile because
it's using UDP. Also it only supports MP3 although I see you have

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Anyone considering a YouTube Disco plugin?

Though a directory with 2000 entries (whether files or directories) is
generally A Bad Idea.

(Not just for SBS, most file systems dislike it greatly.)

Just as it's easier for a human to have an initial letter to subdivide
things, it's also easier for the operating system.

It may be better to do that outside of SBS for this reason.

Spoke too soon about that possible coincidence; the infinite star

That last entry doesn't look good; all squeezeboxes in the house are
off at the time of these logs.

feels like temperature is currently showing -17 degrees (celsius).
The actual temperature is 31 degrees celsius (about 88 fahrenheit) and
it's only going to get hotter today in Sydney, so -17 is a bit off.
Weather.com seems to have it right at
http://www.weather.com/weather/today/ASXX0112 so I am guessing that this
is a problem with the parsing fix, perhaps only affecting those of us
 using celsius.

Change lines 2825 2826 as follows:

$outcome_txt = $matches[ 0 ]-content_list;
if ($outcome_txt =~ m/^(-?\d+)/) {

TO
$outcome_txt = $matches[ 0 ]-as_HTML;
if ($outcome_txt =~ m/Feels Like: b(-?\d+)/) {

You'll find these lines in the sub gotWeather routine.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: HydraPlayer plugin: a SliMP3 emulator written in perl

2010-01-22 Thread torp

When I first started the project, I looked at the source code for the
slimp3slave player, and it looked pretty tiny and straight forward. At
the time, SlimProtoLib was not ready yet, but I looked at the source and
it seemed to be both larger and more complex. So I decided it would be
easier for me to implement SliMP3 rather than SB2 in perl...

As you noticed, with a tiny hack, the SlimServer will send FLAC to a
SliMP3 player, and since I did not have any real SliMP3 hardware that
would complain about that, I decided to go for it...

I have not looked into it recently, and it was not available back then,
but if there exists a perl module that wraps around SlimProtoLib (or
something), that would be a good way to go...

Unfortunately that is how iTunes organizes its library, one directory

However, on the player I can jump to any letter in a second using the
IR remote's number buttons. It is just the web interface that does not
offer direct access. I don't know why they show only page numbers so
that you have to guess on which page your folder might be, not initials
as when browsing by artist.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2010-01-22 Thread Ikabob

Pippinthe my problem is fixed! Thank you so much for all the
personalized assistance you gave me. I really appreciate it very much.

The problem was my router. I think a connection of the cords had
loosened and so the speed of the wireless connection (download and
upload) had slowed down. I am not sure if I am explaining it just
right, being a computer novice. So, I actually purchased a new router
(Linksys) as was recommended by a friend. It has greater capabilities
and provides a better connection. So, I am back to using ipeng on
msb.com with absolutely no problem. It is working GREAT. I really love
the Squeezeboxes plus Ipengit's a GREAT combination. I have
beautiful music everywhere. Thanks again.

If your library is organized the way you state, with one artist per
folder, then browsing by artist gives essentially the same hierarchy as
browsing by music folder. In the web interface there are some added
advantages to browsing by artist: you can display artwork, you can sort
albums for each artist by year and you can have the year displayed. You
don't get any of that with browse music folder.

if you found the time to add the kisplayexec command i would greatly
 appreciate it.

OK, add this repository in your Extension Downloader page (if SC 7.3)
or Plugins page (if SBS 7.4):
http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/slim7/repodata-test.xml

and give KidsPlay 2.5.1 or newer a try. The new command is documented
in the KidsPlay configuration page.

Note that unless you want to hack the Perl, KidsPlay requires you to
enable Password Protection and set CRSF Protection to at least Medium in
order to use the kidsplayexec command. The logic there is that
kidsplayexec is somewhat dangerous. Without password protection, and
device on your network could use it to basically get a shell prompt via
the SC/SBS CLI interface. Without CSRF protection, if somebody got you
to open a page with an IMG tag with
SRC=http://localhost:9000/status.html?p0=kidsplayexecp1=somebadcommandp2=etc,
then they could trick you into doing nasty things. I may yet add an
additional setting on the web page and default to this command not being
enabled, for another safety measure.

Please let me know how it goes!

Also, I wrote the author of that LIRC plugin, and he hasn't done any
work on it in years. :-( So that avenue would indeed require some
effort.

Yes, but the problem stays the same, whether you have 2000 albums in a
flat directory structure or 1600 artists, each with between 1 and 10
subdirectories containing the albums. What you get is a numbered list
with no indication where to click for letter N, for example.

JJZolx;509466 Wrote:

The difference is that you can browse to a newly added folder without
running the scanner first. In theory that should be the fastest way to
play new music. In practice, however, it is actually faster to run the
scanner and wait until it completes than to wade through dozens of
numbered pages.

In normal operation I don't use any of the browse options btw., but
simply type the name of the artist, album, or track in the search box.

I was pretty sure I hadn't any template in Custom Browse to browse

There is a Music Folder template in Custom Browse that just links to
the standard SBS music folder browse functionality, but that doesn't
support browsing by letters.

I suppose it's still possible to create your own customized menu that
browse music folders by letter but I suspect that would be pretty
advanced.
