[SlimDevices: Plugins] Want to help testing erlands plugins on 7.6 ?

2010-04-18 Thread erland

I've published new versions of TrackStat, Custom Scan and Custom Browse
that contains some corrections related to 7.6 nightly and the usage of
the SQLite database.

If anyone want to help and currently uses 7.6, it would be great if you
try these versions and see if you find any other issues with SQLite.

TrackStat 2.10.3031 (errors during refresh at startup and after
rescan)
Custom Browse 2.10.3030 (stopped working after a full rescan)
Custom Scan 2.7.5 (errors during refresh at startup and after rescan)

NOTE!!!
If you have customized a Custom Browse menu by editing the XML/SQL
yourself, try re-creating it with the updated template. Menus where you
have customized the XML/SQL manually won't be upgraded automatically.

I haven't had the time to run through a lot of tests with SQLite so I'm
sure there are a lot of issues that still remains. My current plan is to
wait a bit before doing any major changes for SBS 7.6 bug if there are
some small bugs that's easy to solve and make it possible to use the
plugin I might release versions for these.

If you find something that doesn't work, please:
1. Described exactly what you do and in which user interface (web,
Classic/Boom/Transporter, Controller/Touch/Radio)
2. If the problem is in a Custom Browse menu, describe exactly which
one
3. Provide the server.log file if errors are generated in it when you
perform the operation that doesn't work

You can post any problems in this thread so we have them in one place.

I can confirm that the space is an issue in 7.5.x. Bad news is: I doubt we can
fix this in 7.5.x. Good news: it's already working in 7.6. The artwork code has
been rewritten for the next version of SBS, which fixes this issue as well as
it highly improves performance. That said 7.6 is not ready for release. Feel
free to give it a try if you feel adventurous. I'm running it with no major
issues. But it's been little tested on any platform but Linux. 7.6 will greatly
improve the Photo Gallery experience!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] General MusicIP experience and questions

2010-04-18 Thread sbellon

I'm not sure about that. A track by Antonín Dvořák has been
incorrectly scrobbled to last.fm when using MusicIP.

But yes, perhaps sanitizing the file/directory names to 7-bit AND
letting MusicIP plugin just use the mixable status and not the
title/artist information might help.

I've found that's the safest thing to do. Just change the file and
directory names. The UTF-8 in the tags isn't a problem, so SBS will
still display artist, album, and track names correctly in UTF-8.

I am now using ServerPowerControl solely for switching the players over
to mysqueezebox.com. LightsOut 1.0 comes with network load monitoring. I
set the threshold to 8 KB/s (= 64 KBit/s) and set all my players to
proxied streaming, so SPC does not need to issue any not-idle commands
at all. It works like a charm with the added benefit of other network
operations being monitored as well.

If you run your SqueezeboxServer from a WHS which you are using for
other purposes as well, I recommend having a look at LightsOut.

Got it. But the log only seems to reflect the start of SBS and a
Lazifacation called by the LazySearch plugin. It doesn't seem to
contain any of the log messages I would expect to see when the system
is shut down "manually".

Did you "manually" shut the machine down, boot it back up, and then gab
the log output?

I suppose that it is possible, if the "manual shutdown" happens while
the "Lazifacation" process is still happening, that the block set by
Lazy Search could be preventing SrvrPowerCtrl from performing the
player push to MySB.com. I'll have to look at the code. But this is
just speculation.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Browse Problem?

2010-04-18 Thread Phileas

I'm not sure if this is a plugin issue or a Touch problem.

I browse my music by Composer>Work>Album>Track.
When at the Work or Album level, I want to be able to play all tracks
by using touch, i.e. not using the remote.
"Play all" does nothing as far as I can see.

There is also a problem with the Now Playing screen not updating when I
change to a new Album. I've also mentioned this in the Touch forum.

On the SBS Settings->Advanced->Logging page, you first have to check
the "Save logging settings for use at next application restart" option
near the top of the page, then set the "(plugin.SrvrPowerCtrl) - Server
Power Control" logging level to "Debug" and then finally click on the
"Apply" button at the bottom of the page. Then reboot your server.
SrvrPowerCtrl should then start spewing info...some of which,
hopefully, will be relevant.

of CustomScan after a Squeezebox Server rescan does no longer work. I
have now always to start the rescan of CustomScan manually. I use
CustomScan 2.7.4 on SC 5.1 running on Ubuntu 9.04.

Is that a bug in CustomScan?

Thanks! Definitely the way to go, although I think I need to enhance
the extension mechanism slightly.

I've had a look into OceanTides and the others, and they seem to create
their own "page" of data to display. What I'd like to do is to piggy
back onto the printf style %X mechanism in the replaceMacros function
-- that way users can choose information from different providers on
the same screen -- I don't think that's possible with the extension
API?

If replaceMacros called replaceMacros in extension modules. That'd be
handy! If that's the right approach let me know -- I'm happy to
suggest/code the change to the core SuperDateTime to support this.

A potential issue clashing with future % codes. My code uses
%X[FMK]\d+(eg %X3 or %XF99. \d is 1-99, and optional letter specifies
a conversion to Fahrenheit/Miles/Knots).

My other thought is that in a perfect world where you got paid for this
(!) it'd be nifty to refactor the various core providers into their own
SuperDateTiem extensions (eg one for MLB and NLA, wunderground, etc).
That could encourage more take-up of extensions (although create a bit
of work in the first place for probably very little gain).

(Aussie users, give me a few weeks to get this fit for human
consumption, new baby etc).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2010-04-18 Thread vagskal

Hi again,

This time a couple of issues with Browse By Selected on iPeng:

1. If I invoke Song Info => Browse By Selected => Standard Song Info, I
get an error and the server.log shows this:

Code:

I just wanted to let you know. I do not know what standard song info
means or if I have any use for it.

2. If I choose Song Info => Browse By Selected => Title: [Name] => Play
All I thought that all songs with that title by all artists would play,
but selecting Play, Play Next or Add does nothing - Nothing is being
played or added to the current playlist and Play does not stop the
current playback and clear the current playlist. There are no errors in
the server.log. - This function would be nice to have though.

This (non) behaviour looks similar to this old issue
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=15371 which has been fixed
in 7.5.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Photo Gallery Plugin v1.0

2010-04-18 Thread GreyBeard

I store my pictures on the same Windows machine as my music library so I
really like the sound of this plugin. I'm running 7.5.0 - r30464 of the
server and 7.5.0 r8678 of the duet firmware.

I've installed the plugin on the duet controller. When I go to
extras\picture gallery on the controller I see a message that says
'empty'. When I go to home\gallery on the web interface I see an empty
frame. I assume that I haven't configured something, or configured it
incorrectly. I've tried to set up the standard image viewer with a
total lack of success.

Please, could some kind stranger please talk me through what I have to
set up to get access to my pictures on my pc in d:\userdata\pictures
and its many subfolders?

I assume that I should select 'URL list' for the image viewer
settings.
Then what is the format for the 'source specific settings'. I'd
initially expected to input 'http://myserver/d:\userdata\pictures' but
that's not a winner.
Then I thought I supposed to point to a file with a list of URLs, but
where is that file supposed to be kept and what is its format? Do I
have to tell it about every single file I want access to?

The CustomScan has finished now and everything seems fine. The values
reported by Database Query seem accurate. And the server.log is really
big now. It must have been the new revision that cured the issue. Sorry
to have disturbed you and thank you for your replies.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] General MusicIP experience and questions

2010-04-18 Thread sbellon

I just noticed that my second and third point are related. Those files
that cannot be played (although being present in the library) are files
that have UTF-8 characters in the filename or album directory name.

Is there a workaround for this UTF-8 issue with MusicIP?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] General MusicIP experience and questions

2010-04-18 Thread sbellon

Hi all,

I'm trying to understand how the MusicIP integration in
SqueezeboxServer
works. I have been trying to set it up a year ago and it looked
somewhat
complicated and "hacky" to me, so I didn't follow that route anymore
...
until a few days ago when I finally decided to give it a go anyway. My
first impressions are somewhat mixed. When it works, it produces
interesting
mixes. However, as I already suspected a year ago, it seems very
fragile
and in some places very obscure.

I'd like to give a few examples, perhaps I'm missing something or have
not really set it up correctly.

First of all, I'm using SqueezeboxServer on a Debian GNU/Linux box
with
the nightly beta builds of the current release version. Therefore I'm
using MusicIP 1.8 and not the later 1.9b which is not available for
GNU/Linux. Therefore I also abstained from using genpuid as version
1.4
requires the later MusicIP version (I haven't tried mixing the mipcore
binaries yet). Additionally I'm using spicefly's modified index.html
file.

Ok, so now to my experiences. I configured MusicIP in the
SqueezeboxServer
software like explained in many places. I added the path to my music
library to the MusicMagic Server. After the initial scan/validation I
got the following statistics:

Total songs 4,767
Mixable songs 2,034
Songs to validate 4,767

It needed a second run in order to get at:

In needed a second
Total songs 4,767
Mixable songs 4,763
Songs to validate 0

This is the first thing which puzzled me. Why are some songs not
picked
up the first time? Why are there even some songs not picked up the
second time? But the second one seems to be a fixed point, further
rescans do not change the statistics anymore. There are four songs
which
do not seem to be mixable (for whatever reason, I don't even know the
songs).

Ok, the next thing which puzzles me is the fact, that UTF-8 encoded
tags are not displayed properly (although they are when not using
MusicIP integration). But I think this is a known issue with MusicIP.

And the third thing which irritates me is the fact, that some songs
do not even show up when browsing my library with MusicIP. Sometimes
they show up (but without cover image) and when trying to play, I get
some message saying that the song cannot be played. But the songs in
question are present and are not corrupted. So it seems to me that
the MusicIP database gets corrupted or something like that.

Now I'd like to ask whether others have the same experience with
MusicIP
or whether I have something not set up completely correctly. If this
is
how MusicIP works, then I'm most likely not going to use it any
further.
I do not feel the functionality it provides (yes, the mixes are
working
and quite interesting) worth the issues on the negative side (UTF-8
not
working correctly and songs vanishing from the library or not being
able to play them).

I'm looking forward to hearing your comments!

I run SB3s with Squeezebox Server on WinXP with ESET Smart Security.
SDT settings are DATA REFRESH INTERVAL at 11, WEATHER.COM IDENTIFIER at

turned off. I "upgraded" to 7.5.0 on and SDT 5.8.15. Now my SB3s
display a ? in the upper right corner, an cloud icon, and the the time,
but no weather info. Is it possible that I have a firewall conflict -
if so, what should I allow?

Is SDT is unhappy with 7.5.0 so I should revert to 7.4.2?

Thanks

I only did a scan for new and changed files. A full rescan takes about
6 hours so I will not do that unless I have to.

The CustomScan is running fine so far with the new SBS revision.

I will try to set up the old revision on a Vitual XP machine and run a
test with a full rescan of a subset of files, including the Bell &
Sebastian track.

PS. I noticed that an even newer revision has been posted since I
installed the last one half an hour ago. The development is really
moving forward fast these days.

Did you do a full rescan with the standard scanner or just rescanned
new tracks ?
If you didn't to a full rescan it might not have scanned that
particular track.

Make sure that you run the standard SBS scanner with the same SBS
version as the one that crashes with Custom Scan. It's important since
the problem seems to be in the SBS code. If you can reproduce the
problem in the standard scanner, register it as a bug at
http://bugs.slimdevices.com and attach the problematic file.

Thanks for the prompt reply!

As for the second question, the SBS scan works fine. No errors in the
scanner log from last night and that track shows up fine in SBS. The
track is an old Belle & Sebastian song that has been scanned by
CustomTag many times before. It is an mp3 file with ID3v2.3 (only) tags
and I cannot see any "funny" characters in the tags or in the
filename/path.

I noticed that there was a new revision of 7.5.1 out so I installed it
(r30657) and am now doing a new CustomScan with debugging set.
CustomScan crashed SBS two times yesterday evening, but then I had not
switched on debugging. I will report back.

Btw CustomScan is v. 2.7.4

(252) Scanning track: Le Pastie de la Bourgeoisie
  [10-04-18 09:29:42.0967] Slim::Utils::Misc::msg (1165) Warning:
[09:29:42.0958] Perl interpreter failed at
/Slim/Formats.pm line 252.

The crash means that SBS is no longer running as reported by task
manager and the tray icon. Mysql is still running, though and a
(re)start of SBS via the tray icon starts SBS (but the CustomScan does
not resume).

Here are my detalis:
