Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Clock not recognizing Custom tag keywords

2010-09-22 Thread erland

There is a "Title formats" setting in "SBS Settings/Plugins/Custom Clock
Helper/Various Settings" where you also have to add
"CUSTOMSCAN_MIXEDTAG_OPUS" to make it work. I think adding
"CUSTOMSCAN_MIXEDTAG_OPUS" should be enough but if that doesn't work
you can try adding "ALBUM - CUSTOMSCAN_MIXEDTAG_OPUS" instead.

If I remember correctly I think the title formats are forwarded to
Custom Clock when the track change, so try changing the track after you
have configured it if it doesn't work. If it still doesn't work, you can
try to restart the Touch/Radio/Controller where Custom Clock is
installed and see if that helps, I don't think this should be needed
but I'm not completely sure.

No, you are right, that works :)
Looks like today it's only anymore iPeng's "+" mode that doesn't add
single tracks.
Looks like the context menu returns a correct action (unlike the album
tracks menu which iPeng uses).

This only works if you are using SBS and if you have set the "play
other tracks in album" setting to "no".
Otherwise it will add the whole album. Unfortunately.

I can go to Rhapsody, pull up an album and a listing of all the tracks

yeah I thought that's what it might be but when playing Spotify

The whole functionality for the Squeezebox is being provided by
MySqueezebox.com. If you use your won server it just proxies the
results but the content is still being generated by MySqueezebox.com

If you can add single tracks to a playlist in Rhapsody through the web
interface then the web interface is still different from the rest of
the SB APIs, you can't do that with a Controller, Radio, Touch or
iPeng.

I filed a bug but Logitech claims that this is intended behavior.

Also have a look at how the iPod App works. I follow Apple's UI more
closely than the Squeezebox UI since this is what I find more natural
on an Apple device.
Both the "play shuffled" as well as the "NowPlaying overlay" feature
are directly copied from Apple's UI.

Rhapsody songs behave like any other song...I can add one song to a

Not long...as I said I can't access the documentation because the
developer's web site does not work so it is also hard for me to know
exactly how to use it. I am glad I found this support forum. Perhaps it
should be mentioned in the iPeng application as the average person
probably will never find it.

As far as Rhapsody, what exactly can you do beyond playing an entire
album? That's the only function I can get to work. From the Squeezebox
web app it's quite straight forward to add single songs to a play list,
add albums to a playlist etc but none of this seems possible in iPeng.
Does it not just say "play all songs on album shuffled" as your option?
Is there any reason why the app would work for you but not me? Have
you tried playing a Rhapsody pre-packaged play list while a Rhapsody
album is playing? Does it work? Again, iPeng seems like a wonderful
application but these things don't work for me, rendering it not that
useful FOR ME. However, I am certainly open to any suggestions anyone
has including the developer.

Can you favorite songs in Slacker? I can't.

What happens if you tap the first track? Did you read "Help->Quick

automatically when you open an album the first time).
This works like on the iPod app, you have to simply tap the track to
use.

Shuffling generally doesn't work on Rhapsody, it's not an iPeng issue
but a MySqueezebox.com issue

Of course you can. It's on the "NowPlaying" overlay that you get when
tapping the big cover. It's like on the Web interface, the icons
replace the "shuffle" and "repeat" icons which in turn are placed where
they are on the iPod app...
You can also use the context menu ("hold" the big cover art). There's
also a tutorial about context menus in "Help" in the app, that one did
also show up automatically.

I think you are being too quick to pass judgement. Ipeng is an awesome

2010-09-22 Thread robotron2

Hi,
I downloaded the iPeng app for my iPod touch. I was hopeful about it,
but there seem to be a number of major problems:
1) the developer's web site is down - not sure why but this is
disappoint for a $10 app. It occurred to me to look here for support,
glad I did...

2) there seem to be significant problems with the Rhapsody
integration:
a) when I try to play a Rhapsody album, the only option it gives me is
to "play the album as shuffled". When I click on this, it plays the
album in the album order, not shuffled
b) Once a Rhapsody album is playing, it appears to be impossible to add
other Rhapsody songs or albums to the current play list
c) When a Rhapsody album is playing and I try to play one of the
pre-configured Rhapsody play lists, they don't play at all. Instead the
album I was already listening to continues to play.

3) there are some minor problems with the Slacker intgeration
a) it does not appear to be the case that you can "heart" or "thumbs
down" Slacker songs even though one can with the web user interface.

iPeng is a promising app - but nearly all of my listening is on
Rhapsody and Slacker. Thus, these problems render the app not very

I tried iphone version on ipad. The same thing, just bigger screen.

Can't wait to try ipad dedicated version. Since I adore future oriented
user friendly machines this will be nice experience for me.

But already Ipod/Iphone version is out of this world compared with all
other stuff that i had tried. Momentarily I testing Olive 4HD music
server and I can tell you that this is real "pain in the ass" regarding
functionality. Yes it has Iphone/Ipod Touch support but its
software&hardware integration sucks. When spoiled
Squeezebox/Transporter user see that "half-way product" he realize how
good ipeng is. It is responsive, user friendly, with good graphics and
cool features... and then (if not before) he start to appreciate that
pinnacle.

Also I can't wait to try new Squeezepad for ipad. For Ipod/Iphone I
preffers ipeng, but new version for ipad looks very promising.

Pippin thank you and keep on developing that fancy app of yours that
spoils our souls!

Sounds to me like you forgot to explicitly disable the built in Sirius
plugin. Under Settings/Plugins disable SIRIUS Internet Radio, restart
and I suspect that'll solve the problem.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Clock not recognizing Custom tag keywords

2010-09-22 Thread Co1

I am trying to make a Now Playing screen for classical music on the
Controller, using the Custom Clock applet / Custom Clock Helper.
One of the items is a 'tracktext' item, which I want to fill with :
ALBUM - CUSTOMSCAN_MIXEDTAG_OPUS, OPUS being a Custom Tag in my FLAC
files.
I made visible the CUSTOMSCAN_MIXEDTAG_OPUS in 'Various Settings' of
Custom Scan. Then selected CUSTOMSCAN_MIXEDTAG_OPUS as TitleFormat in
the Interface tab of the server web interface, and set the text field
of the tracktext item to ALBUM - CUSTOMSCAN_MIXEDTAG_OPUS. The
screensaver does not recognize CUSTOMSCAN_MIXEDTAG_OPUS as a keyword,
and just displays it as text.

Any idea how I can solve this?
I use Custom Clock vs 2.8.3197 on Squeezeboxserver 7.6.0.

BTW, to work exactly equivalent to the classical Now Playing screen
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82062), a little more
intelligence is needed. I would like to hide the Artist widget, if the
artist name is 'No Artist'. And if the item is empty, I want to use the
space to show larger artwork. I also noticed that it is still a
screensaver in Custom Clock. On the controller that means I have to
wait at least 10 seconds before I see it, and the screensaver goes
away, if I pick up the Controller, because the accelerometer activates
the controller.

So I guess this is mission impossible ;)
Not even a little quick shortcut to my favorites. My wife and son will

Yes, your instructions were helpful. I hadn't added the plugin to the
Boom's menu, once I did that, I was able to get it to work. Since I
don't have the old IR controller I only have use of the play button, but
that's fine since I only listen to one audiobook at a time.

Unfortunately I can't access this functionality from the controller or
add it to the receiver or radio menus. I wish Logitech would add this
feature to the controller for all player models. It would be nice to
press the select button during a track, and have the option of setting
or clearing a bookmark.

Thanks,
Mark

I kinda always new this is where we end up on this issue. Bummer. The
Duo is pretty pathetic - no very pathetic. I purchased it because the
ReadyNAS was the only NAS Logitech supported for SBS - besides at the
time, I just didn't know enough about all this and had to trust them on
their recommendations and to choose a model I could afford. Oh well.
Live and learn.

I'm thinking about a work around marking all songs in this playlist
with say 4 stars and playing the list through TrackStat. Can you play
a Track Stat list shuffled? I haven't really explored it that much.
What do you think - or are the limitations of memory and useless NAS
devices are still in play in that scenario too.

It's hard to believe that a 'stock' SBS can't offer the same
functionality as its 'Random Mix" against playlists too. That feature
works fine against all 8000+ tracks in my library, feeding up 10 random
tracks each time - why can't it do the same against a playlist?

Thanks Erland for all your help, I really appreciate it. Someday maybe
I'll be able to get a bigger and better NAS set up and then I'll be able
to enjoy your products. Thanks again for all your help.

Cheers,
Rich

It's not currently possible with Information Screen. As I just
mentioned in the other thread, I think the way to go is to integrate it
with the Custom Clock applet. The reason is that I consider Information

This can be done

I am currently running an OpenSolaris machine (Intel QuadCore Q9400, 4
Gig RAM w/Virtual extensions) with all my music on a ZFS raidz
filesystem. This music is shared out by samba.

Squeezeboxserver is running on a virtual debian machine in VirtualBox,
accessing the music through the samba share on the OpenSolaris host.
The virtual machine performs great. Debian was chosen due to the great
package system apt, which can install and update squeezeboxserver with
a few simple commands.

I did try using NFS between host and virtual machine, but i found that
samba was ten times faster when doing a full music search. Takes 10 to
15 minutes to fully scan and build database for a 12000 track flac
collection.

Faster scrolling up/down through artists, albums, songs,... meens a lot

That meens Ipod Touch 3rd generation instead of 2nd generation and

much in Europe/UK.
So here is what I did
Added the bookmark plugin to the menu of my Squeezebox
Play a song/book
Select bookmark from the menu -
Now you have 2 options by scrolling up/down - save or restore
by using the Play button (think this ends up as position 0 (zero) but
not sure - or you can use the number pad to specifically save the
bookmark in a location 0-9, so save/restore via play or by a numeric.

Hope this helps

According to goal number three on the roadmap it is pretty high on the
agenda:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Software_Roadmap

But the roadmap seems to have been abandoned altogether. It hasn't been
updated for a year.

To be honest I think the ONLY hope of Grooveshark on the Squeezebox is
that a user makes it happen.

Logitech were contacted directly by a Groovehark developer who wanted
it to happen via bugzilla. They chose not even to answer him.

Logitech chooses not to put enough ressources in the product line to
get beyond line one of the roadmap: "Stability and performance - No
crashers, quick startup, no skips, less memory usage."

But hey! It's an open arquitecture. One dedicated user with programming
skills can probably make it happen.
