QNAP can already transcode AAC and uses faad with fixed point
arithmetic. However since squeezelite is the player - there is no need
for QNAP to do AAC transcode into Flac. However VLC is needed to
transcode DASH transport protocol from source to ADTS protocol to send
the AAC stream to the player which is not a compute heavy task.

Version of LMS is not an issue as you need to use a transcoder. However
I don't know if VLC with DASH is available for a QNAP - before doing any
more work - you need to confirm what version of VLC (if any) works on
your QNAP

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.3.0 - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-07-22 Thread maddymarc

I love having Spotty for my LMS setup and use it daily. One thing that I
have never been able to get right is the song display when multiple
players are synced and using Connect. The audio works fine. Occasionally
a song will repeat, or the playlist will not continue, but that's few
and far between. No matter if one or multiple players are Connect
enabled, when they are synced (which is all the time for me) only the
first song title played will display, even though the Connect playlist
continues and the songs change.

Has anyone else experienced this? Has anyone figured out how to fix
this?

I use a picore player server, one picore player, one SB3 and one SB2.

Thanks!

My LMS version is 7.7.6 running on a QNAP TS-212P, QTS 4.3.3. I can't
tell what Linux distro QTS is based on, but seen reference to Busybox.

LMS 7.7.6 seems to be the latest version running on this platform.

This question really belong on a PCP thread as most PCP developers will
not read a waveinput post.

I find it hard to beleiev that a single vinyl LP rip to Flac will not
fit on an SD card. The squeeszelite approach is not sensible. Use a
direct conversion input to file (even networked drive) such as arecord
-> flac -> file or ecasound (not sure if available on pcp).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: WaveInput for Linux

2018-07-22 Thread keynet

I'm testing wavinput on my PiCoreplayer setup, here's a couple of things
I did to make it work + a question

It worked pretty much first time, once I installed and configured the
local LMS on the PiCoreplayer + wavinput plugin as wavin:default.
I'm using an ancient USB Soundblaster MP3+ which works fine as a player,
and might approximate a low-end sound card these days.
But it produced horrible dropouts when capturing audio.

Eventually, having tried a few things, I fixed it by changing the sample
rate from 44100 to 48000
So the command in
/mnt/mmcblk0p2/tce/slimserver/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/WaveInput/custom-convert.conf
becomes

Code:

[arecord] -d0 -c2 -f S16_LE -r 48000 -twav -D $FILE$ | [flac] -cs
--totally-silent --compression-level-0 -

A nice simple fix in this case, no apparent dropouts, of course YMMV.

The other thing I found was that the PCP didn't seem to load my saved
Alsamixer settings which default to the MIC as input - no good.
Setting the input to line and setting a suitable level, then 'sudo
alsactl store' saves asound.state in /var/lib/alsa
Setting user startup command #1 to 'sudo alsactl restore' does the trick
of always restoring input levels & routing.

So the question -

I'm using this setup to rip some vinyl, but having difficulty in
capturing the stream. Local capture isn't practical on the PCP due to SD
card size, location etc, and the suggestion is that Squeezelite can save
to file by redirecting output (-o -). However when I do this I get a
huge file very quickly, that nothing recognizes, not even Audacity. I'm
assuming it's FLAC or raw audio and tried piping it through ffmpeg, but
it doesn't like it either. Any suggestions ? Thanks

How did I get these URLs ? Using Applian's Replay Media Catcher (RMC). (
http://applian.com/replay-media-catcher/ ). Basically, started RMC,
placed it on 'Auto', played the stream on maspero.eg, and checked the
properties of the recording which include the URL of the stream.

What do you mean by "What is the precedent ?" ?

With DASH the is the ability to stream at a variety of speeds/resoution
etc some depending on the client (e.g. PC, phone, tablet) - so how you got
the URL can affect how it is to be played. The precedent is where the URL
came from and to some extent the device the being used and application -
which seems to be a Web Browser and PC.

Also, the stream I provided looks very similar to the MPEG-DASH example
among the Streaming URL Formats presented at
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/media-services/previous/media-services-deliver-content-overview
.
MS likes to do things "their" way whiuch can be prodblem.

I recorded streams with RMC using these URLs, and the audio was fine.
I don't care for the visualization associated with the audio which comes
as video. In the case of Nile TV International, I recognize that the
quality of the video stream is very poor, but it is what it is. You can
compare the quality playing the stream on vlc with the same stream on
the player in the hosting page so I don't think there is anything
incomplete about the URL

*So how to setup a transcoding application. ?*

The ability to use a transcoding application depends on the source URL
MIME type - it needs to be consistent and also the trasncoding application
has to be able to discard the video. Also for DASH - you need to tell
application play not to adaptively change bit rate during playback as LMS
playback device cannot acceptable variable bitrates within a stream but
looking at the manifest and this does not seems to be an issue..

At the moment VLC looks to be a only possible application - what is
hosting LMS - Linux (which distro) , Windows 7/8/10 or OSX ? If it is
Windows - there could be problems.

Thanks. I tried a few extension in chrome without much luck, so I
downloaded firefox (which I have used on and off over the years), and
your technique worked. In the extensive source I tried to imagine
looking through it for something that looks for a streaming link. So, I
just did a find on "http://; and "stream" and finally both together. But
I that another station under radio.com wast not consistent in url
naming.

I'm can read source structure, but the last coding I did was "C" without
the "++". :rolleyes:Now that I have dated myself.

But, in the end, I did not start out trying to solve radio.com through
SB devices, rather to get reconnected with the station. Thanks to all
for helped me with that.
