The only option I can think of if your players supports it is to only
use pcm codec and raw format. You can either let LMS transcode (it
cannot always do) or use the bridge in “transcode” mode and set it to
pcm.

IMHO the key word here is "better"

Replace this with "preferable" or "different" and there might be some
substance to different people "hearing" differently.

Moode and Volumio use MPD and LMS SqueezeOS (and emulaters thereof) to
produce the sound (this my understanding, and not a definitive
statement:p)

There are people who like Moode / Volumio more than LMS, some who like
Squeezelite more through Moode than LMS.

One person I know, on another forum, told me that he preffered Moode to
LMS because he was "cursed with perfect pitch" and that Moode worked for
him and LMS did not.

When I first tried Moode, about v3, I found its presentation of music
different to LMS in a more detailed and (faster) dynamic way (if my
memory is correct).

I did not take notes, did not double blind test or ensure the volume
was level matched.

I did not pronounce it "better", or "best".

My suggestion is that you try for yourself and back your own judgement
and settle for that :):)

ronnie

Cables, power supplies and output stages are also, IMO, best served by
the empirical experience of the user :):p

The server just does that -- it 'serves' the file to the player.

There may be differences in functionality (UI, etc), but so long as the
server provides the bits efficiently, as far as native formats go, there
will be no difference in sound quality.

And even with server-transcoded formats, unless there's something
woefully lacking in the code, I doubt most people would detect a
difference.

There *may* be differences due to how the bits get from the server to
the player -- WiFi, wired, USB, BT, etc -- due to factors like
electrical-noise interference. That said, you'll find enough
contradictory opinions out there about which medium is better/best to
suggest there's not really much underlying difference.

The player -- the DAC -- the thing that turns bits into analog signal --
is what counts.

At the risk of a crude analogy, it's like editing a document file that's
stored on a file server. It doesn't matter what OS the file server is
running on, it's the word processor (player) you use to edit (play) the
document (audio file) that will make any difference that matters.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ANNOUNCE: MusicIP container for ARM based systems - first release.

2021-12-26 Thread CypherMK

I did the following on an OSMC image on a raspberry Pi 4:

Code:

curl -sSL https://get.docker.com | sh

Code:

sudo usermod osmc -aG docker

exit and log in

Code:

docker pull mwalters68/musicip-arm

Code:

docker run -d --name=musicip --platform=armhf -e PUID=1000 -e PGID=1000 -e

/home/osmc/MusicIP/MusicMagicMixer:/config --restart unless-stopped
mwalters68/musicip-arm

That will run MusicIP!
but when I try to add music it does nothing.
So I went to 192.168.1.29:10002, added /mnt/MUSIC to 'enter root folder

Tried this from the

But that made no difference.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AirPlay Bridge - can not play to Apple TV with HomePod Minis as default output

2021-12-26 Thread rkrug

Hi

I have a new AppleTV 4K and have set two HomePod Minis as the default
output.

Everything works, but AirPlay via the AirtPlay bridge does not. I have
paired it successfully, and when I set the default speakers to the TV
speaker, it works. But when I set the HomePod Minis as the default, it
does not work anymore. The AppleTV detects the airplay from the LMS
Server (It stops the ongoing playback), but there is no sound.

As I said, when using the TV speakers (via eHDMI I think it is called),
it works.

Any suggestion of settings in the AirPlay bridge, or is it a known
limitation?

Thanks a lot,

Rainer

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Material, volume change option

2021-12-26 Thread edwin2006

Is there a option so that if you click on volume it shows all playing
players?
Now it's only showing the current player.
I know I could use manage players but that also shows all off players.

Why would be the question. Well at the moment we have the top2000 and I
have all players on ground level playing in sync but to maximize the
multiroom effect, the volume has to be adjusted for all players
individual so that when walking from one room to another the player in
that room is dominant.
