Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Player for BBC Radio (not in UK) for SlimServer

2010-05-29 Thread GerardLardner

Thanks, both, for your suggestions. For now, I'll create the favourites
as bpa suggests.

But is there any solution that has a site browser like the AlienBBC
one, but for the non-RealAudio streams?

And has anyone yet cracked making a browser for the RTE radio web site
that can crawl the Listen Back archives to find older programs? For
instance, the Audio and Playlist Archive for Gloria on the Lyric FM web
site has the last ten weeks programs, but the AlienBBC browser does not
see any of them; I can save the latest one as a favourite - the name
for the latest is fixed - but the file names for the older ones all
incorporate the broadcast date in the name and so are new each week.

Thanks again for the help.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Player for BBC Radio (not in UK) for SlimServer

2010-05-27 Thread GerardLardner

Is there a player that will work for for BBC Radio, for listeners
outside the UK and with older versions of SlimServer?

My DS-207 runs SlimServer 6.54 and AlienBBC 1.06; it does not have
enough memory to run a later version of SqueezeCentre.

Now that the beeb has stopped broadcasting using Realaudio streams I
can no longer get it on my Squeezebox, and have to resort again to long
wave radio for my morning fix of BBC 4.

Since the BBC has announced they will be stopping RealAudio streams by

Why do you need the RealAudio streams when there are equally good WMA
 streams which need no transcoding.

Will iPlayer work on a DS-207 with SSODS 3.15, SlimServer 6.54 and
AlienBBC 1.06? My DS-207 does not have enough memory to run a later
version of SqueezeCentre.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Adding new root-level folders to SlimServer

2010-04-04 Thread GerardLardner

I am running SlimServer 6.5.4 on a Synology DS-207 NAS box. Because the
DS-207 has limited memory and a relatively slow processor, upgrading to
later versions of the Squeezebox server software is not an option - I
have tried, and it runs impossibly slowly.

I would like to add another base-level folder to the NAS box and have
it appear in the Squeezebox menu at the same level as the Music Folder;
e.g. Browse/Audiobooks Folder to appear in the same browse list as
Browse/Music Folder. In other words, I want a folder for audiobooks
(and maybe some others as well) that appear in the browse list
/alongside/ Music, but not /inside/ Music. I would like the contents of
this folder to be indexed separately from the Music folder and, for
example, not included in the music random playlist.

I realise that will require some re-programming of SlimServer as well
as creating the new folders. Has anyone done anything like this? Can
anyone offer any suggestions about how I might do this myself?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Where is the list of Podcasts RSS feeds saved?

2010-03-22 Thread GerardLardner

I am running Slimserver 6.5 on a Synology DS-207 (I tried a later
version, but it is too slow in the tiny memory available on the DS-207),
with AlienBBC.

I want to copy the list of podcasts and the RSS feeds and their
addresses from another installation. But where do I find them? Which
file? And which folder? Any pointers where to look would be most
welcome.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] RTE Program Archive

2009-09-12 Thread GerardLardner

Has there been any change in this in the past year? Is there any new
script that will work with Slimserver v6.5.3 that can parse the RTE
websites for listenback inf any better than last year?

I am stuck with Slimserver 6.5.3 for the present; It is running on an
old NAS box (a Synology DiskStation 206) that hasn't the horsepower to
run newer versions - indeed, it barely manages 6.5.3, sometimes taking
more than 10 seconds to move down a menu level (i.e. to select a
sub-menu; not just to scroll down the menu). However, as the NAS box is
still working fine as a NAS box and as my principal backup repository, I
have no overwhelming justification for changing it at present.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC Problem with BBC Listen Again

2008-06-08 Thread GerardLardner

I have run into a problem with AlienBBC, and I would like to know if it
is my installation, or a genuine bug (perhaps caused by a change on the
BBC web pages)

If I go to AlienBBC / Radio 4 Listen Again I get an empty list.

If I go to AlienBBC / BBC Listen Again / Radio 4 I get a populated
list.

Do others see this?

I am using SSODS v2.19 with AlienBBC v1.06_6.5 on a Synology DS-207 NAS
server.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC Problem with BBC Listen Again

2008-06-08 Thread GerardLardner

Good questions both. I cannot remember if I have ever searched for a
Radio 4 program in Listen Again (by either route described in my
original posting above). It's usually Radio 3 or BBC 7 that I am
looking to listen to via Listen Again.

As it happens, the program I was looking for (Radio 4's Early Music
programme, broadcast on Fridays at 20:00 these past two weeks and for
the next two weeks, as distinct from The Early Music Show on Radio 3)
appears not to be available through Listen Again.

As for a new install, no, this installation of SSODS and AlienBBC has
been essentially unchanged for at least a couple of months, and
probably since late last summer.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] RTE Program Archive

2008-03-22 Thread GerardLardner

I have been trying RTEListenBack, and indeed it does the job just fine
for the programs that have a straightforward Listen Back format. Thank
you, bpa.

The problem for me is that I really want to be able to listen back to
Gloria, but Gloria has a unique file name for each Listen Back date,
and only offers the last three or so weeks; also to Operas, but they
appear not to have any Listen Back links (although Apres Opera does);
and to the Lyric Concert, but that has a whole different page tree
layout.

If anyone does manage to create a website crawler that can build a menu
structure from the RTE website, I would be very grateful. It would
probably have to be so general that it could be used with any station
website.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC Live streams not working

2008-03-22 Thread GerardLardner

All of a sudden, BBC live streams are working again for me! I have no
idea why. I /have/ been fiddling with AlienBBC, but nothing that should
have affected this; I only installed a couple of plugins: MyPicks (to
get radiofeeds.co.uk's menus) and WikiRadio (to get bpa's
RTEListenAgain.opml script). Obviously I had to re-start Slimserver to
recognise the plugins, but I had tried restarting the server before,
without changing my previous inability to play BBC live streams. I am
puzzled as to why they work now.

Interestingly, listening to BBC Radio 4 via AlienBBC, it plays the Real
Player stream satisfactorily; listening to Radio 4 (RP) selected through
radiofeeds I get a message loop (voice) saying that the program is not
available due to rights limitations; and if I try the Radio 4 (WMP) feed
(or other BBC stations' WMP feeds) through the radiofeeds menu, I get
a message saying ERROR: CAN'T CONNECT TO RETRIEVE PLAYLIST. Does
anyone know what this last message means and what is the cause?

Thanks, everyone, for all the help and for creating these programs and
scripts. Especially thank you, bpa, for your efforts to help; I do
appreciate it.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC Live streams not working

2008-03-06 Thread GerardLardner

I have recently noticed that BBC Radio 3 and 4 live streams are not
working; when I select one of the non-working items I get a message NO
STREAM.

I don't know when this started,, as I usually find myself listening to
archived programs, and they are still playing. The odd bit is that the
live streams do work if I point my browser at my Diskstation and play
through the PC instead of the Squeezebox.

What could be causing this? Has BBC changed its stream names?

I am using Slimserver 6.5.3, SSODS v2.17 and AlienBBC v1.06. My
DiskStation is a 207, with firmware v2.0.3-0462
