Some questions arose when I went to pick out purchases:

Is this unit sold at Amazon actually made by Raspberry pi?

In other words, is it the same as this "official" one?

I prefer Amazon for prime 2 day shipping and returns now until Jan. 31.

But I don't want to buy a different brand of them just making the same
thing.

The official power supply doesn't have an inline switch. Do I need one?

Do I need a case with a fan for my use, just streaming hi res Qobuz and

Thanks for the additional information. The external USB drive is for my
files, but I don't need one if I will just be streaming, correct?

And, if I do want to play my music files, can I just use a 32 or 64 GB
usb flash drive plugged into the Pi?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Android version of LMS?

2020-11-11 Thread basslover

I use LMS 7.9.3 on a Windows 7 PC to a Duet via Wifi, to stream Qobuz,
and to play files on the PC. Lately the PC has been giving me problems
requiring multiple restarts, during which there's no LMS and thus no
music after the track then playing ends. I have Squeezer on my Android
cell to control. Is there an Android app that can take the place of LMS
on my PC so I can continue to stream Qobuz even if my PC is off? (I
realize I probably won't be able to stream the files on the PC this way,
although maybe I'm wrong). I found SB Player in the Google Play Store
but I'm not sure it's the right app. Thanks!

I will try this and let you know what happens!

Would it be the case that a laptop as a player instead of a Duet would
produce better sound? Or hard to tell?

Right now I have a Toslink connection to the DAC, so maybe HDMI will be
an improvement in and of itself.

Although as with all things audio, one can never be sure until actually
making the change.

Wow I feel a thousand times more aware of what is possible than before.
Thanks for all this!

I have a controller, but rarely use it.

Right now the address bar on the W7 PC for LMS reads
http://127.0.0.1:9000/. Is this still the address I'll be using

Thanks for the step-by-step. I will study this and might have some
questions. Upon initial reading, which device is this for: "so set as

I haven't tried Material, but now that I know it exists, I will :-)

I'm a bit confused -- with the W7 laptop temporary set up, would I be
controlling the music selections, etc through LMS on my main desktop,
just like now? Or via squeezelite/material from the laptop, or from the
desktop?

Thanks for the amp volume warning. I'll probably shut the entire system
down to install the laptop into the chain, including the HDMI into the
DAC, and then power up the system.

I would generally prefer a GUI over line command, unless squeezelite has
advantages over squeezeplay. Any opinion on that?

I'm in Santa Monica, California.

So to start, I will basically just put a Pi where the Duet is now, and
attach via HDMI to the M51 DAC?

(And temporarily before I even get the Pi set up, I can just right now
go stick the laptop where the Duet is, attach to the DAC via HDMI, and
use appropriate software on the laptop to serve to the DAC?)

This additional info is great. I will go through and try to understand
it.

Not having a Windows PC in the chain would definitely be a positive.
The laptop would just be temporary until I get the Pi project set up.
(I do plan to upgrade my desktop computer from Windows 7 to 10, so would
probably upgrade the laptop as well.)

I don't have a LAN near the HiFi. I used to run a Cat 7 30 foot cable
from my router (attached to the desktop I work on and which has my music
files currently) to the Duet in the room with the HiFi. Then I switched
to WiFi.

Thanks for researching this and for the updated instructions. The
option of someone locally helping me is a great peace of mind lifeline
if needed, thanks again!

Now that I understand it a little better, a question that arises is, can
I temporarily use a Windows 7 laptop that has hdmi, in place of the Pi4?
But I think the piCorePlayer only works on Linux? I guess I'm still
not quite understanding this totally, I appreciate your bearing with me.

Thanks for this info. I took a quick look at these items. Do I have to
build something? I'm not at all technical. I need a ready-made
solution. Does the forum have some step by step instructions?

Your last sentence led me to Google it and I'm using a Duet as the
receiver, which I now understand can't do 96. Apologies, I should have
known that I guess. If I buy a used Touch and just swap it with the
Duet, should that allow me to stream up to 24/192?

I'm not sure I understand what you wrote. I tried multiple files on
Qobuz from different CD's, and every one of them was a 96/24 that my DAC
said was a 44.1. Are you saying maybe my DAC is just reporting
incorrectly what it's receiving? As always, thanks for your continuing
help!

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Qobuz output on LMS says 96 but my DAC says 44.1

2020-11-07 Thread basslover

I'm running Windows 7, LMS 7.9.3, wireless from router to receiver. In
Qobuz, when I click the M for information it says it's a 96/24 file, but
my DAC says 44.1. I have the third option, 96, checked in Advanced
settings. My DAC is a NAD M51, which definitely can input 96. Is there
a setting I'm missing to enable the DAC to receive the 96 input?
Thanks!

My bad. I wasn't doing the proper press + and power reboot. So now
it's fine :-)

[SlimDevices: Plugins] can't get controller to connect

2019-03-30 Thread basslover

You guys were so great in getting me connected to Qobuz, hope it's okay
to ask this here. This hasn't happened in a long time, that I can't get
the controller to connect at all. Computer shut off by accidental power
cord disconnection. Upon reboot, can't get controller to connect. The
reciever appears in the choose player screen, but when I select the
ethernet (it's wired), the circle freezes and then the controller shuts
off.

Tried disconnecting and reconnecting power to receiver. Tried pressing
the front of the receiver.

I've tried rebooting my modem and router.

Please help!

Thanks!

Thanks for your continued help! Please excuse my lack of knowledge, but
could you please walk me through how to re-enable the Extensions plugin?
I tried to find something on that but couldn't.

Does it have anything to do with the "mysqueezebox.com Integration"
setting? I had it disabled.

My plugins tab does not have Active, Inactive, and 3rd party. It just
lists all the plugins alphabetically. I'm using 7.7.6. Maybe only new
versions of LMS have those.

I'm not sure what you mean by categories. This is what my plugins page
looks like. I also don't see Qobuz on this page under All Apps:

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Is Quoboz available on LMS 7.7.6?

2019-02-13 Thread basslover

I'm using the Squeezebox Duet. I never upgraded from LMS 7.7.6 because
everything was working fine including TIDAL streaming so I figured leave
well enough alone. Now I'd like to stream Quoboz. But I don't see it
in the plugin list under Settings/Plugins. Can I get it there in 7.7.6
and get Quoboz to work? If so, what would be the steps please? Thanks!
(I'm not too technically capable)
